We stayed here for 10 days as a base for a relaxing holiday with lots of time by the pool and day trips to all the Lisboa city sights plus Sintra and Caiscais. The staff were great and added a nice human touch to compliment the lovely gardens and wonderful decor / furnishings in the hotel. We wanted the dual benefit of 1) being close enough to the city attractions without being in the middle of all the hustle and bustle and 2) a great pool area so that we could quietly relax in the garden surroundings when not sightseeing. Pestana Palace was perfect for us in both regards.

Accomodation was on a B&B basis and our room (2228) had lovely garden views. The room was ideal and kept very clean by the staff and very cool by the air conditioner! The breakfast had a great buffet selection and an outdoor seating option as an alternative to the formal / ornate dining room.

We knew the hotel was on the outskirts (that was an advantage for us) but it has a courtesy shuttle mini bus that does a Lisboa circuit four times a day plus a taxi was always just 'two claps' away from the hotel doormen :)

The hotel has its own fine dining restaurant but we preferred to work from their recommended restaurant list and double check with TripAdvisor before asking reception to book us a table. A few restaurants are walking distance (Solar dos Nunes) but majority were a short taxi ride. Our favourites were Casa do Leão, La Paparrucha, 5 Oceans and Sacramento. We also went to Faia for the Fado but I personally thought it over-rated based on our experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Pestana Palace and Lisboa and we're missing it already :)

Just returned last week from a fabulous trip to Portugal and a six (6) day stay at the incredible Pestana Palace Hotel and National Monument. Such a beautiful setting for an enchanting stay in Portugal. Set in the heart of a Lisboa neighborhood I found the entire visit inviting and quite welcoming. The service and staff of this establishment is exceptionally attentive, pleasant, and helpful. Accomodations were excellent in all respects. I found the entire experience quite remarkable. Please place this national monument on your "Must Visit" list when set to land in Lisboa, Portugal. Breakfast is a smorgasboard of delectible treats served in grand style. This hotel is pure luxury in every aspect.

As a little extra I had the good fortune of meeting up with a professional "A" class Taxi and Tour guide whom I met outside the palace gate. I have a high degree of confidence that Peter Mendes is not associated to the hotel though he enjoys a healthy respect from the hotel staff. Peter Mendes could not have been more obliging and respectful which thoroughly enhanced my experience. He demonstrated incredible knowledge of his trade, respect for my time, and generosity of spirit which culminated in a fabulous first time visit to this wonderful country.

Give yourself a treat and see the sites of an incredibly beautiful country by car with a well versed tour guide. it is a once in a life time opportunity to see and experience the local culture and flavor of the country. Doing so from accomodations at a grand palace is a perfect combination.

Thank you Pestana Palace and Peter for making my trip so rich with memories!

Beautiful old hotel. Rooms were nice. Bed was a bit firm and i think it had rollers. Location not great as nothing near there. Has some eally cool seating rooms and pretty cool pool. They seemed to get backed up at the front desk.

Have visited Pestana Palace for a business trip and resort, stayed for 3 days.

As a hotel and a national monument it looks stunning, unfortunately my visit's emotional atmosphere was ruined by the fact that i had money being STOLEN from my room which i was not intending to give to a cleaning lady. Not much, but i was willing to keep some cool euro coins i was able to find in the city during the day, totalling around 15-20 euros.

I had asked reception twice in two different days about it, but it had no result, despite of the fact that they were saying that they are going to manage it. Come on! Give me some feedback at least, i am not bugging due to the 20euros - that means nothing, what annoys most is that nobody cared and money was taken without prior notice as a tip. Usually you leave a tip on a bed, but that was not the case.

Very disappointing stay due to that fact, won't stay again.

P.S. Rooms are quite old, gear is outdated, wifi connection was quite crappy, breakfast menu for the 5 star hotel looks like a fast-food in a chinatown.

P.P.S. Also was annoyed by the fact that cleaning ladies were messing around with my clothes that were lying in the closet and on the sofa (like, refolded them, put a hairdryer in the closet on my stuff etc.)

The only good thing was a corporate discount for the price of stay.

This 19th century national monument and its gardens is an oasis in the middle of Lisbon. The Palace (main) building is elegant and luxurious. The outdoor pool and gardens are the perfect sanctuary in a busy capital city. The Pestana Palace was an ideal choice for us considering we stayed seven nights. It was a great place to relax before and after sightseeing and escape the city hustle and bustle. Based on our seven (7) day/night experience the Pros and Cons were:

Pros:
Historic Palace is beautiful. Good professional team, but Tiagio and Genato were exceptional. Tiagio went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we enjoyed our stay and visit to Lisbon. Genato is very friendly and made us feel welcome each day with his sweet greeting and smile. Breakfast is plentiful and served in the grand Restaurant "Valle Flôr." The outdoor pool is very nice and relaxing. Given the Pestana Palace is not located within walking distance to popular monuments and the city center the complimentary shuttle is a definite plus.

Cons:
We were very surprised to see much graffiti and trash on the side exterior walls surrounding the Pestana Palace property. The front exterior of Pestana Palace is well maintained, but if you walk around the sides and back there is trash and graffiti. We have not seen that in an upscale residential neighborhood in Europe. Our room which was located in a newer wing was "tired" and could use remodeling. We had a nice and ample balcony, but we had to share it with the Pigeons at our expense. The pillows were the worse I've ever slept on and the mattress was not very good either. The Spa is nice, but it is not always attended and maintained especially in the early evening. Did not expect this in an LHW member! Pestana Palace is not walking distance to restaurants so plan on taking taxi to dinner, unless of course you eat in the hotel every night.

FYI: Non-smokers beware - most restaurants permit smoking. If you have the Pestana Palace make your dinner reservations be sure to specify your non-smoking preference.

Dear CreativeExplorations,

Thank you very much for your detailed review.
Renato and Tiago loved your photos and appreciated your kind words. In the name of both I want to thank you your feedback.
Is always good to know that the Staff met your expectations, as well as breakfast in Valle Flôr. We agree with the fact that we are an oasis in the middle of the city, we are like a urban resort. We offer tranquility in an environment of the late XIX century.
Well, about the graffiti’s on the outside, we are on top of the situation, but sometimes it’s a complicated task…not only depends on us!
We are a non-smoking Hotel and in the restaurant, bar, rooms and in the Palace the Guests cannot smoke. However we have a large garden and near to the restaurant we have a terrace where is allowed.
We appreciate your comment and will send to our Unit Manager.
Thank you for visiting us and we wait for you in the next visit to Lisbon.

Sincerely,

Paulo

As the title says it badly needs an upgrade. The main building is old and beautiful and charming, as you would expect from a ' national monument' as they call it. Really splendid. But after this the rooms let it down. Firstly it's a maze to find you're room, you're wing or you're floor with corridors and lifts and endless walking to find you're room. It's just to far away and too confusing. Then the rooms: literally falling apart. Old furniture, very faded, old curtains, old tv that didnt work properly, no wifi, VERY noisy air on, that as other reviewers say, doesn't work it just blows air. The bathroom I was In really needed an over hall. The wood around the mirror was falling apart. They charge 5 euros for room service not including the tip! If it really was a five star experience fine, but you can't on the one hand pretend to be five star for some things (such as room service charges) and then be faulty towers on the other hand. It needs to have some money spent in it before they can call it 5 star.

Also, the location is NOT good. Miles away from the centre, you have to constantly get taxis, not even any type of shop or amenities nearby. You really need a car to stay here.

I'd love the grandeur if they upgraded the rooms somewhat.
