“A lovely piece of history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

My brother and I stayed here and relished the preservation of a lovely piece of architecture. The room was wonderful; breakfast was good; the pools were wonderful both for relaxing and swimming laps. Staff was great; if you are doing a massage, ask for Ana. CLose enough to historic Lisbon that you could walk; we did both walking and cabs (which were reasonable). Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The garden facing rooms were quiet.

The original part of this hotel is a historic monument and it is certainly very beautiful. There is a "modern" annexe for most of the rooms and these are now looking a bit jaded. The hotel is a hidden oasis and there is a nice pool in the gardens and a second indoor pool. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with the food at the hotel. We had arrived by plane and were all tired and hungry. We ordered a room service dinner and were given a time estimate for arrival of around 30-35 minutes. An hour later we were chasing the food and it took some time more to arrive. When it arrived we were extremely shocked by the the very small quantities and poor quality. We ordered a simple pasta with tomato sauce which was something like 12 Euros and it looked like a portion for a toddler. We asked for Cataplana for 2 and when it arrived there was barely enough for one and that was around 48 Euros. The waitress was very helpful and apologetic and we were offered more food after we complained and we were given some money off the final price. However it is always better to get the food on time and of the right quality rather than money off after the event. Breakfast is served in a beautiful room but the service is old-fashioned and overly formal. We had lunch in the pagoda building overlooking the pool - again the food was over-priced and of poor quality - my pasta had virtually no sauce on it. Overall a disapppointing experience - we much preferred Lapa Palace for luxury in Lisbon.

Nice location, beautiful hotel and the best of the staff courtesies. I highly recommend this hotel as the best choice for visiting Lisbon.

Also the hotel gathers the facilities that you may need either for a business trip (meeting rooms) or for a family plan (swimming pools, spa) among others as restaurants and bars.

I can't imagine there is a better place to stay in Lisbon. Staff go out of their way to help you with any request you might have. The grounds are stunning and I found the food to certainly be 5 star quality. My only negative would have to be about the bed. Our mattress was so hard it hurt, especially when sleeping on your side. The hotel tried to remedy this by adding an extra duvet and mattress pad but it made little difference. I would think in a hotel of this quality that when you get in the bed you should say "aahhh" instead of "ouch." The rest of the experience at Pestana made up for this however. I'd advise bringing your own hair dryer if that's important to you as the one in the room is practically useless. They don't provide any wash cloths so bring your own.

Room Tip: If you don't like a hard mattress, ask for a room with the softest one they have.

Despite a semi-retired half blind taxi driver trying to stop our Lisbon visit before we began, pulling into the hotel drive produced a 'wow' and we never lost that through our stay.

Decor and rooms are elegant, comfortable and generously sized, with superbly manicured grounds and an indoor/outdoor pool complex, with quiet corners if you want to hide from the heat of the day.

Surprisingly relaxed about children, the staff are friendly and helpful without feeling intrusive.

A lovely place to start the day and finish it after exploring the hot, busy and beautiful city.

A truly first class hotel-certainly amongst the best I have ever stayed in. Nothing was too much for the staff and both the surroundings and facilities lent themselves perfectly to a Lisbon break. It is a little way to the centre but a courtesy bus is available and taxis are plentiful and cheap.

We first visited the PP about seven years ago and it has maintained its reputation for great service.
The building is amazing, the gardens lush, the outdoor pool area stunning - and it also has an indoor pool and gym.
It is a quiet slice of paradise in an amazing city.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view room when you check in. Sit outside on terrace for breakfast.
