It is situated in a quiet area on the edge of the city, but taxis are very reasonable.
The old part of the hotel houses reception,a bar and the restaurant which is where a great selfservice breakfast is taken.
There is a small outdoor and also small indoor pool with an adjacent gym. There are loungers around the pool and these were fairly busy but not overcrowded. There is lunch service at the pool and in a close by pagoda-a little pricey but good food though not a huge range.
The majority of bedrooms are in two new blocks and they are clean and a good size.
My only observation is that there is a minibus owned by the hotel but it only holds a max of 7 so although there is a service into the city from the hotel you would be lucky to get a seat.
Having said that, the hotel is of a very good standard with friendly staff and Lisbon is a very interesting city.
We will be back.

We stayed for a week and the place was quite busy yet didn't feel crowded. The grounds are very nice with the garden. Being somewhat secluded and away from the hustle and bussle was good as it gave us some time to wind down from the daily grind.

The cost of the rooms is very reasonable given you are staying at a palace. We enjoyed the place very much.

The food is good although a bit pricey for the dinner meal. Good variety and quality.

The rooms are no elaborate but are comfortable. We had a garden view which was nice.

All in all this is a very good place to stay and I would recommend it over the typical touristy places.

Pestana, Pestana, Pestana..... This name has set the bar for European hotels for my family and I... As you can see from my contributions, we like to think of ourselves as pretty well traveled with a good idea on what to expect or not expect from Hotels. Pestana set the bar for European Travel expectations.... Need I say more?!.... OK you want some details, so here are some...
Courteous, efficient EARLY check in. A prompt, and professional tour of the immediate facilities followed and then..... Our room was unveiled.... Yes, I say "Unveiled" as one would expect the term to follow a work of art... To us, that was exactly what we were walking into... a HUGE living area w/couch, chairs coffee table, entrance foyer, walk in closets HUGE bedroom, Balcony w/sun lounger and cofee table + chairs. All internal space was framed w/very appropriate and tasteful oil on canvas art. Welcome gift uncluded fruit, chocolate and a very good Port wine. Toiletries were excellent, plentiful, tasteful and turn down service was flawless, twice daily and the room was left spotless each time. Grounds are BREATHTAKING!! We even considered cutting our coastal trip short just to enjoy Pestana a little longer. Every corner is filled w/a reading chair, a table, a lounger or a bench. All tasteful, all stunning and filled w/detail and luxury where appropriate.
Pools were very well kept and poolside service was flawless. I must also mention room service was DELICIOUS and very reasonable. I will actually take it a bit further and say this was the best tasting room service we ever had!! We ordered Pasta, Chicken, Fish and Salad, all were delightful, plentiful and reasonably priced.
Staff was Fantastic!! Shuttle driver offered to give me his Lithium batteries when I mentioned I couldn't find any in Lisbon! Breakfast staff was attentive prompt, professional and courteous. My only complaint about breakfast is that among their fantastic selection of just about anything you may want in the morning, you actually had to order any type of eggs from the waiters. Yes, even boiled eggs were not to be found in the huge buffet, which I found a bit odd. Another thing we found inconsistent with the above stated excellence, was the Nespresso coffe available in the room was an extra charge. No the 2 Euro a cup didn't break the bank but IMHO a Hotel of this calliber shouldn't charge for the in-room coffee since breakfast is the only other place to get coffee in the morning :(.... Otherwise, no complaints at all :)...
The shuttle to town was available but we took taxis (5 Euros). If you are the type that likes to walk out of the Hotel and feel "In the action", this is not the one for you. But if you want opulence and pampering in the perfect blend of modern amenities, a refuge from site seeing tourist, and the unique privileged to be able to stay and walk the grounds of an elegant piece of Historic Portugal, look no further. Take taxis into town, as I guarantee you will want to cut your site seeing short, to return ASAP to the comforting embrace of The Grand Pestana Palace..... Hope this helps :)

The Pestana Palace is a lovely hotel approx midway between Lisbon Centre and Belem. The hotel shuttle bus runs approx 5 times a day into Lisbon. The number 18 tram runs from Lisbon Centre to the back of the hotel which is really handy.

The old part of the hotel is stunning. The public rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished. On our arrival a member of staff gave us a tour of the hotel and garden. The gardens are lovely and well maintained as is the outdoor pool area. It was great to swim in the pool after a day in Lisbon. We didn't try the spa or fitness suite facilities. There are a number of sun loungers around the pool and also day beds in the garden and tables and chairs around the chinese pavilion.

There was a really good selection available for breakfast. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but did have a couple of meals in the bar which were very nice. The bar often has a pianist playing who was very good and enjoyable to listen to.

Our bedroom was in the new part of the hotel on the 2nd floor. The room was comfortable,
as was the bed and the maids kept it very clean and tidy. The room had everything we expected, the air con was very effective.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The bar staff made great cocktails and made us very comfortable. The staff who drove the shuttle bus were very friendly, pointing out sites on route. One driver in particular was really good as he dropped us off at a place that wasn't one of the normal drop off points. He also drove us around the Alfama area en route and pointed out particular areas of interest and a great observation point.

The hotel was very relaxing and we really enjoyed our stay. The old part of the hotel is amazing. We really loved the hotel, and Lisbon, and hope to return some day.

recently spent 4 nights at this hotel, and had a very good time. While it is a little outside central Lisbon it is a cheap taxi ride into the centre of Lisbon, and there is a free shuttle provided by the hotel if you can nab it, (not a big shuttle, probably 6 people). It is close to Belem and its sights. The hotel is a combination of old and new parts. The old part is truly beautiful, bar/dining areas/sitting rooms. Suites and more expensive rooms are in the old palace part. We had a deluxe garden view room, which is in the new part of the hotel, but it has a traditional feel, plenty of space in the room , big comfortable bed, and bathroom , though without separate shower , shower is in the bath. It was very clean. Breakffast buffet was very good (though would prefer the hot food to be piping hot, but is never really the case I have found in Spain/Portugal). Good access to newspapers in the mornings. Staff very good, if a little serious/formal, but knew their stuff. Park outside on street to avoid 17 Euro car-parking charge at hotel, there is plenty available. Wifi is 5 euro a day. There is an area nearby called Doca de Santo Amaro under the gigantic red bridge which comprises a marina of bars and restaurants and is a total tourist trap. we had two very bad dining experiences there, so be warned. There is one nice bar there, on the right hand side, in about 50 meters from the path, just before you enter onto the dock itself, and that was very pleasant with good cocktails. My advice would be to check out good restaurants from Tripadvisor or the Concierge instead of eating there. Back to the hotel,,,, Pool area at hotel was lovely and so were the gardens. We didnt have a problem getting beds by the pool as reported by other people. All in all I would recommend this hotel. Memorable place. :-)

The Pestana Palace has classical elegance with amazing service you'd expect from a leading hotel of the world. In a stunning quiet location in Lisbon with beautiful rooms and amazing grounds. Perfect for both business and pleasure. A great combination of classical palatial architecture with a very well designed modern wing.
