Having arrived on a cruise ship at Lisbon and deciding the ships tours were to expensive we went ashore to be met by the usual gamit of taxis/ tour operators etc but having previously read on TAd.about the open top buses took a plunge and went on a 'yellowbus' open top hop on off bus. The ticket was valid for 2 days as our ship was in port for that length of time. One the 1st day we had an 90 min circular tour on the bus before returning on it to the old town then had a ride up the Elevator St. Justin, then the vernicular and finally onto the50 yrs old red tram for a hours ride aroung the old city. All accompanied by the usual taped tour guide. At the end we used the same ticket to ride the local buses back to the ship. the folowing day we used the same ticket on the local buses/trams around the city. All for15E each!!!. There is also a redbus operating but we ran out of time before we could see what thei one offered

To get an idea of the layout & geography of this wonderful city I highly recommend a City Red Tram Tour. Join at the Placa Comercial at the foot of Augusta street.....and spend 2 hours on a traditional tram.... wonderful.... visiting all the small streets and hills and by-ways where buses or weary feet can't reach. You get an informative audio accompaniment, and also a chance to remember all the places you would like to re-visit. Or you can hop on and off where you please. You might even have the added extra we had, when cars are parked just obstructing the lines..... the tram stops.... the bells are rung... the traffic builds up... and some minutes later the perpetrator saunters back to move the car! Everyone shrugs their shoulders " Eet always happen!" And on our tour, nobody came to move their car, so the driver had to make a very complicated manoeuvre , changing track points and reversing for an age onto a busy road then adding an extra 15 minutes on to our journey. We all clapped his efforts!
Of course you can then re-visit this on the Public Transport Tram no 28E, But at least you will know where you are! And do be careful .... the public trams are crowded, it is unlikely you will have a seat, and you will need to get off at the termini, and change trams, many times. And do keep hold of your possessions....pickpockets abound.. as in all big cities. Enjoy! and Obrigada!

Collected by Minibus for an 8 hr trip.Did the old city tour 1st.Next travelled to Sinitra. On a Sunday the palace has free entrancein Sinitra.Could not enter as my husband and I are disabled and could not manage the steps. We then travelled to a village for a typical portugease lunch from a roadside snack van.Carried on seeing the surrounding areas.Came back to Lisbon to have a real local delicacy[custard tart].Had a very good guide who spoke perfect English.Everything was inclusive.Well worth the money.

We as in other reviews have been a Visitor to the Algarve for 27 years, during that time we have seen the railway tracks and very occasionally a old siver looking train going by and were not to impressed by the transport. This Holiday we were determined to re-visit Lisbon under our own Steam and not on a organised Trip. A very good Friend of ours suggested to go by Train explaining the type of train, being much more modern and quite quick. he even got our tickets from Loule the nearest station to Vilamoura our base. we opted to go first class just 13 euros more than second. The train was dead on time and we jumped on apparently they dont hang about. We found a seat, not knowing that on the ticket it indicated the carriage and seat number which was explained by a English couple who seats we occupied. The first thing we noticed was a trolley coming round with the morning papers, unfortunately in Portuguese followed by another with Coffee, Tea and soft drinks all free, The views were very different from our usual Trips and when at the Bridge into Lisbon over 3km long the train passes through the middle quite a view but the most impressive was the Station Oriente what a magnicicent building well worth a peek on the internet for would be Travelers. Next we took a Taxi to the City centre where we walked up and down streets stopping for Coffee and cake ( I have become addicted to the custard tarts ). With plenty of time till our return we took the open top Sightseeing Trip, the weather was kind though a little windy, but the trip was well worth it, we returned where we got on and walked around the streets getting a bit lost, more coffee and cake, then a taxi back. to the station where we had a drink waiting for our departure time. The waitress remembered us when we arrived in the morning so was quite flattered. The train dead on time the trolly back again, Dark outside so watched the screen showing a nature programme. at Loule our arranged Taxi was dead on time. Back to our Apartment in Dom Pedro Marina Vilamoura after a long enjoyable experience
