We found this great little place while wandering around the Bairro Alto neighbourhood. We were brought out plates of cheese, ham and croquettes, presumably as a complimentary snack - beware though, these are charged for at the end of the meal. Being new to Portugal, we had no idea of the etiquette - and for people like us on a tight budget, an unexpected charge of nearly ?15 can be quite a hit. The main courses of the typical dish of Bachalau á Bràs were very good however, and went well with the good house red. All in all, a nice place to have dinner in a hip neighbourhood - highly recommended before a night out on the town!

It was late evening when we ended-up at this restaurant by an accident. (We’d just left a bar in a neighborhood where we’d had enjoyed life, Fado music.) On the way we’d left behind some other bars/restaurants and we’ve chosen this one as it looked like “home” to me. That’s how we felt when we stepped into the small, but inviting room. There are family pictures on the walls; funny coloured elements of wall decoration, lace in the window/door covering; old fashioned washroom…. It all had its own Portuguese’s charm. There was no crowd at this time of a day, but couple people enjoying an evening for some time. There was a jug on their table with some fruits at the bottom. I asked the waitress what kind of drink that was. Sorry, I don’t remember the name, but I know it was based on sparkling wine and fruits and the waitress confirmed that it was delicious.
Our meal was fantastic! It was so good, that I asked to pass my thanks to the cook who prepared our meal. I have to admit, that I’m fussy and seldom really enjoy restaurant’s meals. We had some Portuguese dish of fried potatoes with fish and the other dish was grilled salmon. Both were excellent.
I highly recommend this restaurant. It’s worth to make an effort to find it. When you google the address: Rua Barroca Lj. 86, Lisbon 1200, Portugal you will see that this place is not even marked on the map with the restaurant symbol. I guess only because it is so small. Otherwise it should be recognized for its high quality meals and nice service.

We found this place by chance. It's tiny, just 20 covers, but it was full when all the restaurants around it were empty. The food was outstanding, from the multiple starters which kept appearing on our table, as if by magic (the octopus salad was particularly good and not something I'd have ordered) to the main courses (pork with chestnut sauce and cod fish with cream and garlic). And a very nice bottle of wine. We didn't manage a dessert as we were full but they looked good too.

The service was excellent. It's a family run restaurant that was started 40 years ago and the pride of the owners comes across in how this restaurant and the food is presented.

Everything was excellent, even the bill which was much less that we expected. This is a little gem, strongly recommended.
