If you are coming to Lisbon with young children you absolutely must go to Pavilhão do Conhecimento. You can spend as many hours as you like in the place, just playing with all the simple but fascinating experiments and leaning with the kids.

Along with the Oceanario, this is a must-go if you are in Lisbon with your family!

Very good science center, with many activities for children and for adults as well. Check their program of activities, and plan your visit accordingly. The location is also nice, on the grounds of the expo, with relaxing views on the sea and modern architecture.

So this isn't really a museum, more an excellent collection of hands on experiments guaranteed to have your child hooked within the first few minutes. Our 9 year old daughter and 14 year old son both loved it. There are various zones but they aren't really done by age like they would be in the UK - even the bit that looked like it was for littlies (based around fairy tales) kept out two busy for half an hour trying the lie detector test. The final room, where you can build marble racers or electrical circuits also merited a long stay and we eventually managed to drag them away 15 minutes before closing time. This place is easy to get to as well - metro to Oriente station, walk through the shopping centre and then turn right and along the front of the park. There is also an excellent Brazilian rodizio steakhouse really nearby - perfect for lunch beforehand. Disappointing shop aimed at littlies only really (not a patch on the one in the Science Museum in London - so don't promise shopping at the end of the day!) but this is a minor quibble. All in all a great afternoon (we went to the Oceanarium in the morning).

We couldn't access everything, the building was quite big and an event blocked the upper entrance.
So we started with a science approach to childhood stories, like the " pigs, little red hood... We didn't understand everything each time, but it was funny. We moved to the small children area that was full of small experiments for childrens, as well as a cooperative mining place. It only works if children are interested in cooperating and can understand each other!

We spent around 5-7 hours in the museum and found many experiments to our surprise. It was well deserving an award. We took our kids there, it was a good place, and kids were enjoying the time. There were many physics project and the concepts were explained in a beautiful manner. It is a lovely place for science lovers. The entry prices were also very much affordable. There were few temporary and permanent exhibitions inside the museum and our kids enjoyed their day. The management has organized it in a very wonderful way such that there is no place for commotion. A must visit for gaining more knowledge on science I would say.
