“Original but needless intimidating”

MUDE-Museu do Design e da Moda

The museum is very original for being built in the what is left by a large bank office.

The exhibitions are well presented but the "riot" and destruction scenario, dark and claustrophobic in addition tho the security being held by Lisbon policeman gives this rather original place a mix of danger and "big brother" feeling. NOT comfortable at all...

Yes, its stupid but, on the contrary of the major museums across Europe, one does note have authorisation do take photos.

You can find it at the end of Augusto street, just before you reach the Arch of the Commercial square. There are some furniture, tasteless dresses, and old equipment that you can find in any old shop any where in the world. Nothing interesting at all ( in my opinion ). I would NOT advise any body to visit that museum. ( that is if we can call it a museum ). Sorry to say it is a waste of time.

The furniture and the clothes on the ground floor is fun to see - quite a few really iconic pieces. There was a fado costume exhibition on the first floor, which was great. The permanent exhibition on the second floor was not very interesting. It's free and is in the midle of one of the main streets so I would recommed a visite if you enjoy style.

In he basement furniture especially chairs this time. In the first floor Mode and many of the little black one. Second floor room design. the richness decrease the higher you come but some of the chairs and a sofa were just lovely. The second floor gives the impression of a strict beautiful design of ladies clothes, while the third floor gives an impression of not being finished. Free entrance and at the main walking street.

We loved the building and fell in love with all of the beautiful furniture inside. The best thing was it was right in the heart of Lisbon and free!

Would definitely recommend to anyone with an interest in modern design.
