“Good location”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

We were very pleased with the hotel and it's location which is easy to and from the airport (Buses 44, 83 or 745 to Marques de Pombal) and with a Metro station very close by. It's an easy walk downhill into the centre, and if you get a 24 hour transport ticket which covers trams, buses, Metro and funinculars, an easy Metro trip back.

Due to the building works going on at the back of the hotel, we asked for a front room and were given one on the seventh floor at the front. Thanks Reception. The room was a good size for a city hotel, clean, comfortable and attractive and with a view over the trees in the avenue. No grumbles whatsover. The rooms can be cleaned up to 6pm, so be aware of that if coming back any earlier.

They do not supply milk with the tea facilities, so we took up a glass of milk up every morning after breakfast. The breakfast selection was good, and good quality, although avoid the bacon which generally was luke warm. Bread rolls and coconut cake were superb. The first couple of days the tables were not cleared, but the following two days, after staff changes, the service was very efficient.

All in all, a super stay and we would highly recommend the hotel.

A couple of tips. If over 65, always ask for senior rates which are cheaper for the trains, museums and castle etc.

Get the 24 hour day pass for the transport, worth it at 5.50 euros.

Make sure you visit the castle, number 12 and I think 25 tram ride then walk the last 5 minutes. The tram ride is an experience in itself.

And do not miss going to Belem, tram 15 which stops outside the Jeronimos Monastry one stop after Belem itself. The monastry is a must, especially the Cloisters, and also walk to the Torre.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel is much quieter

While the name implies that the hotel is on Avenida Liberdade (one of Lisbon's grandest and very, very busy thoroughfares), the entrance we used is actually one block West on Rua Duque de Palmela, which is a quiet, tree-lined street. Our room faced that street, with office buildings opposite. Great location. 5 minute walks to Ave. Liberdade, a Metro station there and 3 more minutes North a major stop for most sight-seeing buses. The rooms are not large but well laid out and clean. To make them seem larger there is a glass wall between the beds and the bath room. For privacy you pull down a large blind. This was a first for us. The furnishings and fixtures are modern. We could have wished for one or two more shelves in the bathroom. There is a safe (always a plus) and a mini bar. As we have found in other European cities, the room key card is inserted in a slot inside the room which lets you start lights, electricity and AC.
Upon leaving, you remove the key card which automatically shuts down lights, AC and appliances. Towels are adequate but (as we have also found in other European cities) they have yet to invent the face cloth. BYO. On the mezzanine is a nice restaurant, which we frequented several times. Aside from good Pizza they serve a variety of other items at reasonable prices. Friendly waiters with passable English. This is also where breakfast is served (included in our plan). Good variety with cold cuts, cheeses, 5 ot 6 different kinds of bread and hot items like scrambled eggs, bacon etc.We stayed for 3 nights at the end of May, 2012. It is affordable, near the city center at one of their grat Placas (Pombal). Overall, we liked it and would go again.

Lovely clean and very modern hotel. Location perfect for walking to the main hub of shops, bars and resturants right down to the sea front. ....passing all the big names designer shops first. :)

Staff are fine, but no hotel information in the room, tea/coffee/suger but no milk.Watch out for the over priced mini bar - and check the contents on your arrival( the sheet is there some where) as you are charged for anything missing after your departure.

Did not eat inthe hotel but found the drink cheap - large glass of good wine 4 euro
Shuttle transfer to the airport at 12.50 euro for 2 was quick and good.

Not good for parking if you have a car, limited spaces and first come first served.
I woudl stay here again

Room Tip: Our window did over look a building site - but this was not important as we really only used the roo...

Clean, modern rooms. Excellent shower. Quirky decor with a window from the bedroom on to the bathroom. Lovely staff. Surprisingly good restaurant. A little bit out of the centre but close to the metro and bus routes. But the coridors were very dark. Toilet paper, tea & coffee were not replenished. No milk (why have T&C and not provide milk?). Only 5 hangers in the wardrobe. Horrid orange squash at breakfast. Extortionate rates for room service. They've got so much right it's a shame they are let down by such small things.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location... I stayed there for a week with my husband and from the first day I wanted to get out of there but unfortunately i had already paid for a full week so we were trying not to stay too long in there. The staff are not polite at all.. the opposite. They don't even greed you when you enter the lobby... The breakfast was terrible and even though it was paid in our booking the first and second day they told us it was not included, so we had to make it an issue with the reception in order to eat. So, from the 3rd day and on we didn't go for breakfast again. The rooms are small and with no space to even leave your luggages. And the bathroom is seperated from the bed with a glass wall, which gives no privacy.

Unfortunately there are some clients "difficult enought" as much as they want to claim. It is a nice and confortable hotel an atmosphere. The breakfast "confusion" doesn't make any example about anything concerning the service in a hotel. An easy contact with the hotel reception and everything is and was solved without any stress. And it is very strange when someone stay for a week in a room and didn't discovered the black out curtain between the room and the bathroom.

Nice and modern hotel in the street «behind» Av. Liberdade. Not much noise, but all the twin rooms are facing the backyard, and there it now is big construction work/new building set up. Noise in the weekdays is a drawback. Dark and gloomy corridors and rooms. Small rooms, that have what you need(safety box, closet, desk, desk chair, luggageshelve, refrigator/mini bar, coffee/tea facilities, climate control with AC and heating, TV, WIFI), but the room is very cramped, so it is better you are normal built or even thinner. Just one chair is a drawback too. OK comfy bed, but I do not prefer just a sheet under a blanket(chaotic if restless sleeping). Many pillows, but none were soft or thin. Fast flashing light behind TV was very frustrating when we tried to sleep. Good shower, even if you have to shower in a bathtub. The free WIFI worked well. Radio in roof integrated was nice.

Nice, but crowded breakfast area. Had orange juice, milk, yoghurts, some sorts of bread, ham, cheese, egg, Pastries, corn flakes/chocopops and the common things. Smiling waitresses.

Check in was quick, staff professional and helpfull under whole of our stay.

Short way to Marques do Pombal Metro station do this hotel central and convenient

No minimarket nearby is a big problem I think,I prefer it. But we found a coca cola and soda machine at the Metro station...

This hotel is well-situated...less than 5 minutes from the Metro and overlooks a quiet, tree-lined street. Value for money is excellent but the little missing details are sometimes annoying. For example, room cleaning is late in the day; tea/coffee is not replaced in the room; room service cost is double that in the restaurant; stamps are not available. However, front desk service was very good in terms of early-morning taxi ordering. The room was small, but clean and comfortable and the toiletries in the bathroom were good. There was a rainforest shower and a hand-held shower and a bath...nice touch! Breakfast was average...with all the breads and sweets available in the city, it's a pity there wasn't more choice.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel are quieter.
