Sta Rita is located in Lisbon on a street between the Baixa below and the Castelo S. Jorge above. Having read conflicting reviews about this spot, we dropped in for lunch.
The space around the tables singles this restaurant out from others. As does the extreme simplicity of the room with its high vaulted ceiling and without the television seemingly inevitable in most places we try for lunch.
One of us had braised veal, the other braised rabbit. Not haute cuisine but better than average. In both cases, the meat was tender and the sauce delicious. We did not have a first course. With bread and butter and a half-litre of water the bill came to €12.85 for two. We will come by some night for dinner.
The service was pleasant and the waiter chatted about the new elevators being installed between the Rua Vitoria below in the Baixa and the level of the street his restaurant is on. (The Sta Rita will be considerably more accessible when the elevators are in operation.)
RECOMMENDED for good value and flavourful food.
