“Very good food in noisy surroundings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

This is a very popular restaurant for both locals and tourists. Excellent menu of Portuguese meat and fish dishes. The four of us enjoyed four meat dishes, which were very good. Two were half portions of house speciality dishes (duck and rice, and lombo de porco). I had a wonderful mozambique dish of grilled meat and bacon. Each meat dish also came with rice and potatoes. The prices are excellent; each of the half portions, which were large enough for one person, was 5.50 Euros and each of our full dishes was 10.50. With a salad, half bottle of wine, water and bread, the total was just under 40 Euros for four of us. BUT it is very busy and noisy in a room that has terrible acoustics. So I recommend it if you want very good, very reasonably prices Portuguese food, and don't mind eating in a noise environment.

“Go where the locals go!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

I searched out this restaurant due to the "Lisbon by Locals" website and the fact it was open on Sunday for lunch which is rare in Lisbon. The waiters don't speak English but we were able to communicate well enough. I ordered the skewered shrimp which came with fried potatoes and salad and was very good. My wife had the grilled codfish with potatoes which was very good also. With a bottle of vino verde the bill came to 24 euros. Get there early, the place filled up quickly with locals coming after Mass.

“Maybe I'm being generous”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

My wife has always said that there is no bad soup in Portugal and this restaurant proved her wrong. She also says that the Portuguese can do wonders with steak, even a thin cut. Maybe the chef was English. Her small fish on rice, a half portion, was both generous and very good. However the service was indifferent. One had the feeling that they did not want anyone there that they didn't know.

“Great food at a very competent prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

We've been two weeks ago and enjoyed every dish! Everything is made in the moment from the grill, where you can see from the outside.
Try the octopus legs! The are great, and the Bacalao in the grill is amazyng.
It's just moments away from the tram 28 stop and the Elevador de Bica

“Great food at terrific prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

Offering great food at terrific prices, this is the place I keep returning to each time in Lisbon. Be here early if on a weekend and be still prepared to have a beer while waiting to get a table.

I'd recommend any grilled fish, as well as the rice pot with fish and shrimp. Usually we would share a small rice pot and either a grilled fish or one of the several grilled steak variations (or both), this last time a great veal steak of some particular kind with "crushed grilled potatoes" that I like. Some of the potato variations and some of the accompanying vegetables are not too tasteful as is common in Lisbon, but the fries + rice + fried egg combination that comes with some of the steaks gives you lots of options as for what you put in your mouth.

It's a bit crowded so if you don't like that then maybe you'd be better off staying in your hotel room ordering room service or going to some dull luxury restaurant.
