A Portuguese friend recommended that we visit this, and we were glad we did. It has a marvelous collection detailing the Portuguese presence in Asia, with beautiful pieces from India, Japan, Macau, among others. Many are very clolorful.
A large collection of material relates to the use of puppets and masks in the telling of stories. The "Shadow Theatre" displays alone were worth the visit.
There is a rooftop restaurant; a very basic café; and a very nice gift shop.
You can reach the museum via the trams 15 or 18 (electricos) but finding your way to it after disembarking is not easy. Strongly recommend taking a taxi from the Cais do Sodre!
