Owner description: Do you want to make a tour in Lisbon? Said to be built on 7 hills, Lisbon is an amphitheatre that looks down onto the Tagus, the river it has always depended on. There's history oozing out of its romantic avenues, old Moorish quarters, Roman underpinnings and Manueline, Baroque and Gothic monuments, off-set by some of the boldest modern buildings by local and international architects. This is a cosmopolitan centre of commerce that will appeal to your senses and to your gourmet instincts. It is a palette of colors where the sun shines the whole year round (almost!).

The 48 hour ticket is well worth money paid and tells you alot about the city. The only thing we can say is get the ticket and ensure you go up the Jesus tower after dark - It is totally different world. Just go there and do it!!!!

I truly enjoyed the trip on the Yellow Bus. The availability of the synchronized audio guide, in english, was an exciting way to gain an understanding of the history of this city. The routes of the busses are thoughtfully planned to provide convenient access to many awesome sightseeing opportunities and points of interest.

Catharina was a good guide: informative, fluent in both English and French, the jokes here and there were "prepared" but created a nice atmosphere nonetheless.
We did the Sintra tour (5h). We honestly thought we'd get to see more there. It wasn't bad, but I think other tours might have been more pleasant to do when it comes down to "interesting buildings and viewpoints"
If you want to go to Sintra anyway: CHECK THE WEATHER REPORT! Sintra has its own micro-climate and is known to be often covered in thick mist. Half of the tour we literally could only see a few meters in front of us, so we really missed a lot because of that too. At one point, we could hear the Atlantic ocean but could absolutely not see it: the mist was so dense for square kilometres around, never experienced such a thing before. It did give the surrounding woods a special, eerie atmosphere though.

We bought the 4 route, 48 hour tickets at 22.50 euros each and thought it good value for money, especially as it also covered other public transport offered by the company. We cannot comment about the commentaries as we don't tend to use them, relying on a guide book and map instead. We were lucky to have warm, sunny weather but even so, use something to cover seats because they can be damp.
The tram ride was excellent. Due to road works, the route was changed but we were escorted to the replacement stop. The other routes vary in interest. In all of them there is an feeling that the route has been designed in places to make up a tour, rather than go past somewhere interesting but we find this happens on all such tours.
Intervals between buses can vary from the 20 minutes as stated but he routes are quite long and timings can be affected by t traffic and road conditions.

We wanted to give these guys 1 star but we really can't … as 22.50 for 2 days and at least 3 decent routes really is pretty good value comparing to other offerings. However… that is where the positives end. It really is frustrating when you see the solid core of the service screwed up by poor management.

Firstly, the driver we started with was constantly on the phone. At one point he was even texting while driving. Surely, this is dangerous and illegal everywhere in the world! He left people waiting to ask a question while he was having his private conversation.
(Don't bother asking us for details, we already brought it up with the company representative, there and then - they could not care less. In fact they saw him talking on the phone as he was stopping at the station. )

Secondly, they apparently expect you to bring a printer with you on your holiday. If you purchase the ticket online, their interpretation of "e-voucher" is "a printed copy". You can't get a ticket on the bus if you don't have the printout (even though that is exactly what the website tells you to do). Even the representatives "can't help you". Result - the bus driver will drive you past the office at the shore, take you to the Commercial square and tell you to leg it back to the office to get your ticket. This takes more than an hour out of your day. No apology, but endless repetitions of explanations that you need a printed voucher. In the end, they looked at the website and conceded that nowhere did it state that a printed copy is required. It then transpired that they have encountered this issue with customers before; but it is not their fault, they told the "website people". Surely in this day and age they could scan the barcode off your phone?! Or at least fix the website to state that a printed copy is required to give you a choice to just pay 2.50 extra to get the ticket and not have to lose time. Really poor customer service.

And finally, we had to change seats at least twice as the audio system was broken. This was not a problem for us in low season, as the buses were half empty. Would hate to have to deal with this when they are packed.

All in all great example how to mess up what could be a really decent offering…

(Don' bother with the empty apology either. We gave ample opportunity to fix the issue for us and nothing was done. You could, however, write about what you did to fix the issues we raised.)

Dear customer,

Thank you for your comments and preference for Yellow Bus services.
We are sorry that they did not meet your expectations, however, we can assure you, that they contributed to the improvement of our services, for example on the part of the voucher text where we strengthen the information about the necessity to print the voucher out.
On your next visit to Portugal, we are waiting for you also in Porto, Braga, Guimarães, Coimbra, Braga.
Thank you
