My husband and I spoke so highly of our other trip to Portugal that our friends wanted to join us this year. Different Portugal is quick to respond to emails and questions, we planned a 9 day customized itinerary. Traveling with Different Portugal is really the only way to go!! Filipe greeted us at the airport with a smile at 6:00 a.m...he has a great personality and is so much fun to be with. We traveled on the roads less traveled, enjoyed local food/restaurants, visited pastry shops and didn't have to worry about driving, directions, paying tolls, getting lost, getting fuel and speaking Portuguese as Filipe translated for us. We traveled to Porto, Geres National Park, Douro Valley, Monsanto, Marvao/Estemoz, Evora/Monsaraz, Sintra, Cascais and Lisbon. We visited Vineyards for wine tastings had picnics with awesome scenery, went to a cork factory, bought beautiful dishes at Olaria Patalim pottery, visited castles, palaces, forts, churches and some of the most beautiful countryside. Filipe is so knowledgeable about the history of Portugal and it's very interesting to hear the facts that he shares. Traveling with Different Portugal really is the only way & best way to travel - totally stress free. The couple that traveled with us said that this was a vacation of a lifetime and I agree!
My wife and I were referred by my sister and her husband and, while they gave this firm a "5" rating, we were unsure as to whether to do a tour company. We are so glad we did. Our tour guide for the day, Manny, was 5 star plus, knowledgeable to the point where we felt as if we could have earned college credit in terms of his knowledge transfer, and he gave us Ritz Carlton or Nordstrom -like service. Just a fantastic day. Next time we come back we will hire this firm (and Manny) for multiple days. Greg & Diane
We hired this tour for a day to Cascais and Sintra, it was absolutely great. They took to us to the best of the best and provided as much quality and detailed historic information as we could handle. Would love to hire them for the entire country, felt like going around a new town with a great local friend.
Had a great one day tour with Manè to Sintra and Belam. Mané knows all the tricks and shortcuts to get you in and out of all the sites.
We explored Evora, and medieval Monsaraz with Manny on a private tour from Lisbon and what a fantastic day we had!
Manny picked us up promptly as previously arranged and whisked us out of Lisbon and into the rolling hills of the Alentejo region. First stop: Evora and it's dramatic St. Francis Bone Chapel, and on to the Diana Temple and views that stretch out forever over the fields of Alentejo. Manny is an avid bird watcher, so was always quick and delighted to point out the local population of stork condos and their inhabitants. We met up with a friend of Manny's quite by accident - but he was driving a vintage 1961 convertible and offered us a ride - we hopped right in for a tour through the medieval streets of Evora before continuing our way to a local winery for one of the most comprehensive and enjoyable wine-tastings we've ever had.
Afterward, a picnic lunch at the vineyard and then a leisurely drive through the undulating hills Monsaraz, another medieval treasure sitting atop a hill.
Manny regaled us with stories throughout the trip - on the history of the area, on Portuguese history and on his personal travels - as I said, it was like travelling with an old friend.
Thank you Manny (and Filipe for organizing our trip). We will long remember our time spent with you! Happy travels!!
Cheers,
Kim & Dwayne
In 2006, my sister and I used this tour company with some friends and loved the tour and the guide. Ten years later I am back with more friends and it has only continued to get better. Filipe managed to get a small bus for our tour when we became a group of 9 instead of four at the last minute. Manny was extremely knowledgeable of the area and the history which was fantastic. We had so much fun, stopped at great places to sample wine and olive oil and our lunch and pastries were fantastic. I absolutely recommend Different Portugal for touring Portugal!
