Last week we went to Lisbon for a little break. Because we have a 6-year old daughter, we always try to get a hotel with a swimming pool. In the heart of Lisbon there are not many hotels with a pool, so that was the reason we chose the Tivoli.
After an early flight we arrived ad 10 am in the hotel. The receptiondesk was very accomodating trying to find us a room although official check in time was hours later. We were given the option to upgrade to a Tivoli room (one of the renovated roomtypes) with breakfast for the three of us from a standard room without breakfast for EUR 60/day. As already was suggested in several reviews there is a big difference between standard/old rooms and the new ones, so we were happy to upgrade.
And we were definitely not disappointed! What a wonderful big room, beautfully decorated, with a nice bathroom (with super rainshower and seperate bad), wonderful light design and heavenly bed!
We didn't get to see one of the standard rooms but we saw a big difference in the corridors: ours was very nicely decorated with design lighting, the corridors with standard rooms were bland. If this is a good indication of the difference in rooms, we were very happy paying extra for the renovated room!
Breakfast was served in restaurant Flo. The room itself is an experience with its high ceiling and beautiful wooden decorations. Because there are also a lot of diplomats/business man having an early meeting over breakfast the atmosphere is lively. The breakfastbuffet itself was ok: excellent food but nothing truly special.
The first day we went swimming but the water was very cold. This and the not so good weather at the end of our trip prevented us from more swimmingactivities.
Location of the hotel is super! You can very easily walk to the big Rossio square, but the hotel is also only one block away from metrostaton Avenida. The daytickes on public transport are highly recommend because with all the hills it's easier to take a tram, lift of metro to higher elevantions. And the little yellow trams are an attraction by itself. Taxi to the airport was only EUR 10,--.
To sum it up: we stayed in quite a few nice hotels, but this was definitely one of the best. I would definetely recommend the hotel but make sure you stay in a renovated room!
