Owner description: The "Café Luso" established in Lisbon in 1927 at nr.31 of Avenida da Liberdade and later in 1939 moved to the Palace Brito Freire in the Bairro Alto borough. This Palace built in the late 17th Century for an aristocratic family, survived the catastrophic earthquake of 1755 and has remained almost untouched up to today. The "Café Luso", Fado House and Restaurant, is located within a solid and austere area, the former cellars and stables of the Palace Brito Freire, also known as Palace of St. Roque. The decorative patrimony includes the ceramic panels by Master Ferreira da Silva (1960's) and more recently the paintings of acrylic on canvas by Mr. Norberto Nunes. The "Café Luso" fulfils daily its destiny: to combine the sensibility and taste of the artistic and gastronomic talents, by permanently paying attention to its main aim , to preserve and innovate, making sure that stimulates and keep a cohesive Team, both skilful and creative. Being the Fado a tradition that cannot be translated, the Café Luso summons all those who visit us to return and feel the sounds of the Portuguese Soul.

“fado”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

We went to the restaurant for the dinner of a conference. The menu was chosen by the organizers I guess, I would prefer to eat more local food but anyway. There was also Fado music (or show) I am not sure how to call, but it was very impressive, even without understanding the meaning of the words, it was very nice to listen the singers and the musicians. You should be silent though, they need silence during the performance.

“A little bit of everything”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

Nice mixture of fado, fantastic guitarr play and nice folk dances. The food was good and the service fast. We can really recommend this place.

“Pricey but good Fado”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

We just go there after 10,30pm, went you can have only drinks, minimum 16 euros a person, we only drink a bottle of wine, and it cost us 32 euros. It was the cheapest wine.
Really good fado singers, after all I enjoy.

“Extremely Overpriced, Awful Food!!!”
Reviewed October 16, 2012 via mobile

Don't go here!!! How about 6 euros for a bottle of water to start. 19 euros for a starter that was cold when it arrived. 32 euros for a main which was possibly the worst food ever. The dancing and singing seems to be done without being heartfelt which is what Fado is all about.

“It was indeed a tourist place”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

It was a tourist place with tour groups sitting up front. The fado singers were not up to par, but the musicians were very good. The best singer was the singing waiter. The folk dancers were ok, but you tire of that pretty quickly. The food was average, but not bad.
