“Decent 3-star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

We were booked there recently for a conference. Being near the university, it was a good location for that type of thing. It's a decently-run, clean, modern hotel. There's a big breakfast room on the top floor, and the breakfast was good, very typical of Portugal--cold cuts, cheeses, breads, yogurt, fruit, all types of coffee, etc. There was a nice little bar on the second floor as well. Very quiet.

Our room was very small, and had twin beds, which we would not choose again, although when you are extremely jetlagged, separate beds is not a bad thing. Room was very clean, shower was good. It was also very quiet at night.

Only electrical outlet that was usable without disconnecting the TV was in the closet, which was not terribly convenient but we made it work (take a multi-outlet adapter). No other complaints about the room at all.

Except...wifi was very poor. We had to pay, and for the charge, we got to connect only ONE device at a time. Since we had 5 devices with us, that was a pain. And each time we did it, we had to re-enter the password (at least I did on my Android devices.) Signal was very weak--apparently it depended on how far you were from the elevator. Well we were close, and the signal was really bad, and frequently just disconnected.

This one thing is enough for me not to recommend this place, if that's important to you. And for a hotel that seems to specialize in academic conferences, it's a killer.

Location was very good--not in Centro, but on the edge, and a few steps to a subway (metro) station that would take you right now to Rato and thus to Bairro Alto, or other metro lines. We found a few good restaurants nearby, and there was an underground shopping mall in the Campo Pequeno building, with a Pingo Dolce, a large supermarket. Also convenient for the airport.

Room Tip: Ask which rooms have best wifi signal.

Hotel Alif is located in Campo Pequeno, across the street from the bull ring. While not located in the main tourist areas, it is only a short walk to the metro and buses that will take you where you need to go. The people at the front desk spoke English well, and I thought the service was excellent overall. I booked a "double or two twin beds" room; it turned out to be two twins pushed together, but I slept well enough that it didn't matter.

The Campo Pequeno area actually has quite a bit going on, and this may not be immediately visible as you walk through it. Under the bull ring is a small mall, which includes a number of shops and restaurants and a movie theatre. On weekends in the offseason (at least), there is a market in the main area as well.

I enjoyed my trip to Lisbon and thought the Alif made an excellent home base.

Stayed 2 nights at Alif, hotel is located in Campo Pequeno, safe area at 15-20 mins taxi or metro (nearby) from the city center. Very convenient, rooms are clean and enough spacious, comfortable overall. Staff was very helpful in answering questions and really reserved. Confirmed that rooms on the top floors are nicer (we switched from a room with moquette to another without - more suitable for us). Metro station is pretty near outside. Lisbon is wonderful and Alif is definetely a good starting point to reach all the attractions and the airport (15 mins by taxi)

Room Tip: Try to book on upper floors

stayed here one night on a layover, 10 minutes from the airport- beware of cab drivers who take you on tours! bidet and very nice bathroom, definitely more than i expected for the money. Dont think it is in a very convenient location for tourists although the bull fighting arena is next door.

I found my experience to be very underwhelming. I would be OK with the hotel for a night or two, but never recommend it for a vacation. The Staff at the reception seemed rude; like they were upset that they had to check-in another guest to the hotel. I had trouble accessing the WI-FI internet (which was NOT free) and they would not help me, but rather acted with dimissive disdain.

I had to use the hotel safe, and like WI-FI, it was a daily charge of 1.5 Euro. The rooms provided the minimum of comfort, but were generally cold and uninviting.

I would never recommend or go back to this hotel.

The hotel is located close to the subway station "Campo pequeno" that connects to the main city and to Lisbon international airport. Taxi is 100 mts away and it costs 5,50 € to get to the airport. The hotel offers a full and varied breakfast. The campo pequeno bullring and commercial area are 1 min walking distance. Hotel staff was very helpful. The room was clean and had everything important ...I only missed the fridge. Internet was expensive so I did not used it.

Loved my time in Lisbon and this hotel helped to make it so. Located outside the centre but so well connected by the metro and bus. Transport is so good in Lisbon. Hote is very clean and there are a lot of English language channels available [for those that applies to] I would definitely come back here.
