“Wonderful time”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

The Restaurant is in a typical area of Lisbon called Bairro Alto, a very cool and hip neighbour hood. Very good ambient and the food was great with lots of tradicional dishes to choose from and a big wine selection as well. You can also enjoy FADO portuguese tradicional music and their tradicional dances. I highly recommend it!
Perfect to get to know part of the portuguese culture.

“Good food, even better wine and the right amount of Portuguese folklore.”
Reviewed February 17, 2012

We spent a lovely evening in company of good wine (the list is very long) and food (I recommend medium done pepper stake). A special note for the professional and nice service ... they really know how to handle wine and guests. During dinner, they occasionally dimmed the lights and a fado singer, guitar players or folklore dancers filled the stage – for me, this was the best way to get to know Portuguese tradition.

“Nice Fado Restaurant”
Reviewed December 7, 2011

O Forcado is a nice Fado Restaurant situated in Bairro Alto where you can eat typical portuguese dishes and listen to Fado. Amália Rodrigues herself was appointed Godmother of the restaurant. The "Fadistas" (Fado singers) are experienced ones and they present a diversity of Fados (Fado de Coimbra but also the typical Fado from Lisbon and the Fado vadio). The restaurant itself has a very simple, almost oldfashioned decoration, but it is just like the old taverns where "Fado vadio" was sung. The food is good and the prices very reasonable compared to other Fado restaurants. The wine card offers an impressive choice of the best wines available. There are usually two Fado sessions per evening (one early starting around 20h30 and a late one around 22h). Usually when the Fado singer enters the place and says "Agora canta-se Fado" (meaning "Now Fado will be sung") costumors should remain very quiet and make as less noise as possible during the performance (you may cheer afterwards). These are just the basic rules, to show the Fado and the Fadista some respect. It is very rude to talk and laugh loudly while the Fadista's performing. Please keep this in mind if you go to a Fado Bar for the first time because this contributes to the whole atmosphere and you may be spotted negatively if you're louder than the Fadista. Fado is not just background music, it is a meaningful artistic performance, sung with the heart and the soul, every word has a deep meaning... If it is too emotional for you, please go to a regular Restaurant and avoid Fado Bars. The Forcado also offers a folclore performance during the early session of the evening, but we did not see it as we had late dinner.

“A Dreadful Experience in a Hideous Tourist Trap”
Reviewed June 9, 2011

We were eager to experience some authentic Fado in a congenial atmosphere with good food. Unfortunately we ended up at O Forcado, a wretched Las Vegas like hideous theme park that did nothing but debase this musical form. Our waiter spent more time making unwanted suggestions than actually bringing us our food. We saw our entrees sitting on a table by the kitchen swiftly growing cold as our waiter alked blithely past it, seemingly oblivious to its and our existence. My wife had to talk me out of walking over and getting it myself.

Avoid this place like the plague. Arguably our single worst evening in the two weeks we spent in Portugal
