The place was full of crap. There was a girl who definitely should have been in school walking around with a weapon that had spikes on it trying to rob people. If you’re in the market for old Hustler magazines and figurines of naked women, then this is a dream for you! If you’re normal, avoid it.

We reach the market around 10am, some stalls are just setting up and we are able to browse and some local hand made ceramics and tiles at ease. We also get some sketches from local artist.

By noon time the place is packed with locals and tourists. I recommend this place for souvenirs, and reach there early to avoid the crowd.

Open sat and Tues, yes there is a lot of tat, but also some great stalls too, isnt that the definition of a flea market?

It's a mixed bag; some vendors display their wares on a blanket while some have formal tables and stalls. There is a near-infinite number of things for sale. The clothing combined current styles and high-quality merchandise well-displayed and easy to search. Leather goods seemed to be in plentiful supply, as were hand-crafted pieces made by some pretty skilled artisians.

Particularly interesting were the vintage clothing items and the Frieda Kahlo-themed denim jackets. Local artists offer unique pieces crafted in their clever little heads.

Our walk up the hill to the church was such fun, we could have spent a couple of hours if we had the time.

Excellent place for tourists and locals as well. Lot of stuff to choose from, no antiquities but also precious things to buy, e.g. Portuguese ceramics, jewellery, folklore, technical stuff. The atmosphere is friendly and funny. I must for every tourist visiting Lisbon.

This market was open on a Saturday morning ... A long uphill walk to the famous church ... A large open air market ... Traders selling a few secondhand items to larger stores ... good live music ... Go with a purpose and be prepared to bargain ...

Keeping in mind that a flea market is comprised of 99.9999% trash, we found Lisbon’s “Thieves Market” to be a very enjoyable experience. Aside from the usual flea market souvenirs, there are the odd artistic and architectural treasures to be found. Some of the regular dealers ( in the permanent sheds) have some interesting items.

If you expect to find a great treasure, you’ll probably be disappointed. Go with low expectations and you’re sure to be delighted.

Not high quality antiques at the Tuesday market but a nice area and interesting flea market. Some quirky shops and nice places to eat tucked away in the back streets. Easily fills a morning

On our last full day in Lisbon we started our day here looking for gifts and souvenirs and were pleasantly surprised at the variety of items on offer. Under the blooming jacaranda trees some of the venders lay their goods out on large tarps, piles of bits and bobs and odds and ends. Lots of useless junk. Then there are the venders that have booths or trailers where the goods are targets for tourist. Then there are the street front shops and studios where the goods are more modern design or antique. The market covers a large area if you want to see it all and there are some real gems hidden among the tat. We found no old religious items but did come away with crystal chandelier parts I will use as bobeche, a wonderful fado CD, and my wife bought two dresses from a local designer. We enjoyed our time here, met some people, heard some stories, found some lovely stuff, and were not bothered by any pickpockets, even though we knew they were among us.

Always a nice experience to come here on a Tuesday or Saturday morning...even if not to buy just to see...
