“Beautiful Basilica”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2012

Stopped here at the end of the line of tram 28. It is a beautiful basilica, but the best part for us was paying €4 to access the roof for the views, and being able to go inside the upper dome. We timed it well as they had just reopened after lunch. Loved it.

“Come at missa time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2012

We were recommended to see Basílica da Estrela by a librarian in Joaninna, University of Coimbra. He said it was a beautiful specimen of baroque architecture. He was right. Both the outside with a huge dome and twin bell towers (which seems typical in a Portuguese igreja) and the interior in various shades of marble are very fine. We were lucky to be there at missa time which enhanced the impression. The Basilica is a stop of City Sightseeing buses, and in front of it you can take legendary Tram 28.

“Old temple”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

This basilica looks very old and monumental. You can get to there traveling by the tram #28.
The funny story happened with it when I wanted to make photos of interior although there were icons on the wall saying that you cannot make pictures here. And I was staying there in doubt but then the guy (maybe a monk) came from inside and saw me with a camera.. I do not speak Portuguese and I asked him using "hand language" about making some photo. And he answered in the same language that I may do that if it would be quickly and if none would see that. Also he told me that if someone catch me he didn't tell me anything :)

So, you definitely need to see this basilica.

“Beautiful terrace; has lunch break.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012

This beautiful edifice which is right next to the charming Jardim da Estrela park is very magnificent. We happened to visit during the siesta hours but the terrace was open and it really offers a great view (plus a very refreshing wind). From the terrace you can go inside the cupola and have a look down. Exciting.

“Beautiful Church”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

A beautiful church and worth the visit. Tram 28 stops in front of the church. It is not worth the 5 euros to go to the top.
