Seating about 1000 spectators, the Teatro São Carlos is an architectural gem standing out among the important cultural buildings in Lisbon. Although obviously modified over the years, the interior spaces for the audience to gather in at intermissions retain a refined elegance. The auditorium is splendid in green and gold, its focal points the highly decorated royal box and the imposing ceiling with its glittering chandelier.
The opera seasons do not appear to be planned very far in advance. Visit the box office to find out what might be coming up. And look for banners on the front of the opera.
