“Not good orientation”
Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

The place has an amazing tile collection, but the museum hasn't a good orientation for a self guided visit. Some times you get lost with too much tiles... the best is the Lisbon skyline before earthquake portrayed on a huge 23 meters tiles panel, is on the last floor.

“Very interesting!”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

I arrived at this museum in a rainy day where I did not know what to do for a couple of hours...and I did not have many expectations. But I found out a real little jewel! The museum has lots of azulejos, organized cronologically in rooms, and nice "patios". If you did not have a clue about azulejos, this place gives you precious hints without being too verbose...or boring. And after all those decorated tiles, you can get a decent caffè in the inside bar. Worth the visit.

We had a very good guide. She described as we went along the styles, colour, designs and dates of the tiles. Although very beautiful without this insight it may have become just lots of tiles. There is a wonderful church on the site and some exceptional china pieces and art works too. The restaurant was very nice with a good selection of lunches. We were able to do the tile workshop. You decorate a plan tile provided. The museum fire it and you collect a few days later. I've hung mine, its a reminder of the day.

“Old and new - tiles are always beatiful”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

The museum is located a little bit outside of the heart of Lisbon so the best is take a bus. Very interesting vast collection of tiles, some details about production, fascinating view of Lisbon before the earthquake of 1755. I liked contemporary part of tiles collection. Being in Lisbon tiles are everywhere but it is worthy to see them in special place

“Most interesting Musuem on Iberian Tour”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Tile making is historically important and interesting in Lisbon. This museum has the most fascinating collection of tile displays imaginable. It is even connected to a chapel of a former monastery whose walls are covered with tiles. A three hour tour is recommended. Don't miss this!
