This hotel is situated just off Avenida in Lisbon - easy walk downhill to the town centre; designer shops in Avenida and excellent local restaurants within 3 minutes walk. A neat tidy frontage hides a beautiful late-deco interior (built in 1942). Inside they have retained original light fixtures; marble and cork floors, but have very modern electrics and plumbing. Very nice modern room - almost a suite with very comfortable king-size bed and day bed for another guest if required. Beautiful bathroom with bath and shower - always very well presented with fresh towels, bathrobes and slippers. Breakfast was very good every day and the staff were very helpful and pleasant.
The extras you didn't expect are the friendly reception staff (Hi Raquel!) 24hrs a day - complimentary tea in the library/dining room (including those Portuguese custard tarts) and complimentary port and sherry in decanters so you can help yourself at any time.
The only negative things can't really be addressed by the hotel - the front street is quite ordinary (ie not a great view); the homeless everywhere in Lisbon and the graffiti.More
