Olissippo Lapa Palace
Ranked #11 of 254 Hotels in Lisbon

Reviewed April 29, 2014

The Lapa Palace Hotel is located in the diplomatic district of Lisbon, close to a number of embassies. Although in a nice area, it's a little bit far from sightseeing and dining spots, a 15 min / EUR 8 taxi ride one way.

The hotel itself has the aura of a classical grand hotel. The interior is decorated with classical furniture. The staff offers formal, old school service on a very high level. The rooms reflect the style of the hotel and are nice, large and clean, with everything in good condition. Only the free W-LAN service is somewhat spotty and requires login each time you disconnect. The higher floors offer a nice river view, whereas the rooms on lower floors have a view of the garden and pool area, which by itself is very nice as well.

Breakfast is ok, but doesn't match the otherwise high quality of food and services provided. Drinks, food and service in the piano bar are very good, and food in the restaurant is excellent too.

The downside of all is that it's not really a bargain. You get what you pay for, not less, but also not more.

Knowing the city very well, staying for the first time at this hotel was a wonderful surprise. It is like a hidden gem in the city center of Lisbon. You get of course what you pay for, with an extra word for the service, as the staff is great and friendly and makes everything to make you feel confortable and welcome without really disturbing you. The best part for me was without doubt the swimming pool area, as it is surroudend for a beautiful garden and it really makes you feel in a green secluded place in the middle of the city. With the plus that they actually warm the water up to 25 degrees which makes a perfect stay end of April if you get wonderful mild sunny days like the ones we got this time in Lisbon. Our bedroom had an incredible view, was large and spacious and was very nicely decorated, in a classic bright style, spot clean and with all amenities you can ask for. The food and mainly the breakfast for a top 5 stars hotel could be better, but still nice enough to wanting to come back and staying again soon. For a top staying in Lisbon, I highly recommend this hotel.

I read all the reviews before I booked, but the hotel exceeded all of our expectations. As a member of the leading hotels of the world, everything was done before we even had to ask! We arrived hours early for check in, but the room was ready in advance, and we had even been given an upgrade. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. We asked several times for help with booking tours / restaurant / Fada and recommendations for various things. They were so helpful every time. Breakfast was great. The room we had was fantastic - a palace deluxe room with a view of the garden / pool and the river. We could watch the sunrise in the morning from the room / balcony. Heaven! The room had every thing you might ever need. The toiletries are by L'Occitane so no need for me to bother about bringing shampoo etc. We had a wonderful meal in the hotel restaurant for a special occasion. The service was great (as we had come to expect in this wonderful hotel) and the food was beautiful. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. We were only there for 4 nights over the Easter weekend, and were sad having to leave! Hoping to come back sometime in the not too distant future! Thank you to the hotel for all you did for us x

Room Tip: We stayed in a palace deluxe room and it was very comfortable, wonderful amenities, nespresso machin...

Knowing very well the city and a few hotels there this is certainly our favorite, No matter if in winter in its cosy piano bar, or in the summer in the astonishing swimming pool. We have been there a few times and this hotel has become part of our life. This is a classic luxury hotel, in style and service... in an emblematic neighborhood of the city

We returned in April for a long weekend, having visited previously during the height of Summer. The hotel was looking immaculate and the staff all around were first-rate. The team in the Bar are fantastic. No weak links at this Leading Hotel.

On arrival, we enjoyed a surprise up-grade to a River View room. The amenities were perfect and, when the weather improved, the minor adjustment needed to the air-con was carried out very promptly, without fuss. If you enjoy fine dining, the well-appointed Restaurant has an extensive, imaginative menu. If relaxed, informal dining and / or a slow cocktail is your thing, then head for the beautiful Bar with its adjoining terrace overlooking the river. The team in the Bar are just brilliant: so efficient, polite and charming. Why would we want to be anywhere else? The weather became warm enough for Breakfast al fresco, which was a real treat after a long, wet, UK winter.

The gardens are lovely, too, being terraced and featuring a beautiful outdoor pool. There is also a small paddling pool for tots. (I did not visit on this trip, but there is a Spa and indoor pool, too.)

Rooms with a pool and garden view are very nice. There is also a wonderful function room on the main level, which would be a gorgeous location for smaller weddings. This hotel is not in the city centre, but a taxi is readily available and the few minutes' trip to reach there costs about 5 Euros.

Am already working on the plan for our next visit. The staff guarantee that you will want to return!

Room Tip: Rooms with a pool and garden view are very pleasant indeed and have a private balcony with a table...

Stayed here for 2 nights, my wifes choice, after having stayed the first part of our holiday in my choice of a trendier hotel on the other side of Lisbon. I was expecting the Lapa Palace to be too glitzy for my tastes, overly attentive staff and stuffy dress code etc..... but how wrong I was, it's brilliant, a genuine piece of "riviera type" luxury, bliss after a day trudging the sights. The staff were all very good at their job but easy going, the guest room (we were 6th floor in the main building) was great, good views, spacious & well appointed. Yes the furniture and decor are a bit "1980's Dallas" style, and the grounds, pool & spa are similarly styled, but it all works and is very, very enjoyable. Any downsidses ? not really, it's a fair walk to the centre, but not too far, we walked to the centre each day, and the bar prices are a bit steep if you're planning to stay in the bar all night !
