We spent Easter weekend at Lapa Palace and had a wonderful time. I would have given it a positive review even before we arrived, simply based on the level of organization and information provided by the concierge desk. Though generic hotel material, we were provided with excellent information on activities, restaurants, tours and the city. I would definitely like to single out the daytime concierge "Rui Pedro (apologies if spelt wrong) who was very helpful throughout our stay, and the maitre de at Cipriani whose service and enthusiasm were exceptional.
Our hotel room was spacious, very comfortable and had a lovely view of the gardens and pool from a balcony (don't be shy of using the pillow menus as they do make a difference). Breakfast which was included for us was plentiful and tasty. There were some nice touches of providing a bottle of water with the turndown service each evening, as well as having no additional charges for ordering room service. Flagged by tripadvisor reviews, its location isn't in the middle of the city, but we found that quite refreshing as it wasn't that noisy. Also, taxis are very cheap (it doees not cost more than 5 Euros to get to most places). Goes without saying, but this is a luxury expensive hotel, so don't go there if you are looking for a bargain on any front.
As far as Lisbon goes I would recommend the following: 1) definitely go to Belem for the sights (as well as the pastries); 2) trip to Sintra and Cascais is a must; 3) Dinner at "Olivier" is excellent (there is also a Port Wine institute next to it which allows you to sample various ports for as little as 2 Euros); 4) the packed tram 84 is a nice way to get to the Castle from the hotel and is worth the experience.
Overall, expected from any luxury hotel, the hotel did whatever they could to make our stay comfortable, and we had a lovely time.
