Paintings and sculptures of the Portuguese and European XII to XIX
centurie. A fabulous collection of the museum also includes ceramics, textiles, furniture and decorative arts, and religious art from the Middle Ages to the Baroque.

Collection sadly surpassed by Gulbenkian on our opinion. Bosch and Breughel highlights. Much of top floor (Portuguese school) however under restoration and not on view.

Sundays before 2 pm and bank holidays are great times to see this place since it is free. You can see it in 1 hour and get a flavor for the place.

If you are into museums, and even if you're not, this is a great place to get a feel of Portugal's past wealth. There is something interesting to see on all the floors, with some really grand exhibits here and there. Don't miss the Hieronymus Bosch's triptych. It's magical. Overall a very satisfying experience.

This museum of antique art is housed in the 17th century Palace of the Counts of Alvor. Iin 1834, the government nationalized the property of the Catholic Church, and all the artwork in the monasteries and the convents was confiscated and is now housed in this museum. One can also see period rooms with all of their furniture
