“Visiting Lisbon, a definate must see”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

My wife and I were doing a long weekend visit to Lisbon (Lisboa) during our stay in Portugal's Algarve. We did a general coach tour around Lisbon when we first arrived and decided that we wanted to look more closely at the historical area of Alfama and glad we did. We took and ride in a 'tuk tuk' which was ideal for getting around the small historical streets. The ride was a little bumpy but got to see an awful lot of the fascinating quarter of Alfama. We were able to stop next to many historical buildings - The 18th century church of Santa Luzia - The Façade of the Se, the cities main cathedral and the labyrinth of alleyways which spill out onto open air patios. The Tuk Tuk tour takes from 1 hour to 3 hours which will take you round the whole city of Lisbon if you want - do ask to stop off for photo opportunities and cost around 35 to 55 euros. The area gives you many Historical buildings, Museums, Galleries, Markets, Restaurant's, Churches and Belvederes. Have a great time, we did.

“Very hilly!”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Beautiful - absolutely one of the city parts to visit, when in Lisboa! Although the streets were very steep, the Pantheon and the Sao Jorges Castle made it all worth while! :D And there were so many statues and cosy viewing points over the city and the ocean (got some of our best pictures on our trip to Alfama!)

“Get lost...”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Walk around in the sun... Get lost... Admire the tiles on the buildings... See the locals sitting on the street and talking and the kids playing... Go up hills, down hills then up some more hills. Find random buskers dotted around the place. Just don't try to reach the river to get back to the centre.... It won't work!

“Old Town Charm - A Must to Walk Around & Explore”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

We explored this part of Lisbon as part of a Free Walking Tour. There is no initial cost for the tour, which lasted about 3 hours. At the end of the tour you give the guide a tip, depending on how you found the tour. We later went back to this area and had a more in depth look around. The old parts of Lisbon are the most interesting and unique. It was on this walking tour that we tried home made 'Ginja' - a liquor made from cherries, sugar & cinnamon. It was delicious!
Tip: To find a free walking tour, just Google 'free walking tours in Lisbon' & there they are! Some have to be pre-booked, others you just show up at a specific time & place. Your choice!
There are also many great places to enjoy the local cuisine in this area. You can explore and snack as you go! :)

We took the trolley up the hill, ate lunch beautiful views over the water. Then we made our way down via the steep windy streets to the waterfront.
