“Old Town Charm - A Must to Walk Around & Explore”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

We explored this part of Lisbon as part of a Free Walking Tour. There is no initial cost for the tour, which lasted about 3 hours. At the end of the tour you give the guide a tip, depending on how you found the tour. We later went back to this area and had a more in depth look around. The old parts of Lisbon are the most interesting and unique. It was on this walking tour that we tried home made 'Ginja' - a liquor made from cherries, sugar & cinnamon. It was delicious!
Tip: To find a free walking tour, just Google 'free walking tours in Lisbon' & there they are! Some have to be pre-booked, others you just show up at a specific time & place. Your choice!
There are also many great places to enjoy the local cuisine in this area. You can explore and snack as you go! :)

“Interesting”

We took the trolley up the hill, ate lunch beautiful views over the water. Then we made our way down via the steep windy streets to the waterfront.

Walking without haste in winding , narrow streets,, small squars and atmosphere of nostalgy and Fado . The sunshine on white walls, and view from Largo das Portas do Sol..

“Worth a detour, not worth a trip.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

A daytime walk was interesting enough but maybe its charm is revealed in the evening to those seeking a musical experience. Personally i would not care to venture there after dark.
Having no desire to get lost in the warren of alleys we stuck to the main streets which are more rundown than other parts of historic Lisbon.
