“An original part of Lisbon with stunning views”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

This is a nice part old part of Lisbon with lots of charm and the best views over the city. Apart from the castle as the main attraction, there are several restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee.

“A must when in Lisbon- gritty. Don't expect "Paris"”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Old, old old, windy cobblestone streets. hills, Narrow alleys with old houses on top of each other.

Laundry hanging outside windows to dry. Old ladies in black talking to passerbys from their windows. Graffiti everywhere,

I wouldnt stay here (maybe 1-2 days) but definitley fun to visit, great fado clubs and authentic food.

Also, a note-- I felt very safe there (I had read about some not feeling so)

“nice neighbourhood”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

I went to this part of Lisbon on a free tour, given by the Fado Museum. I t starts in the square in front the museum, with a Fadista and its guitarists and continues into the heart of Alfama, with its narrow alleys, with the guide explaining the beginning of Fado.In the middle of the tour, we had 5 more songs with the local residents singing along. It was great!

“A typical part of Lisbon which is a “must” to visit.”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

Near the Castle, Alfama is a part of the city that has the typical population) poor). However they live in a peculiar way and you can feel it when walking around. Be Careful at night – don´t go alone and avoid dark and narrow streets.
In Alfama you will get a lot of attractions either small restaurants or monuments like the national Pantheon.
