I tried the walking tour with Discover Walks around the area of Alfama! This tour was really the high point of my trip. The tour was really not boring at all, very informative, really cool and we even got to try the famous drink of the area! These tours are all done with locals and the guide was really great! Great fun and informative!

Great place to go wondering and so many great restaurants. Remember to look up the small side streets as you will find beautiful terraced gardens to eat in. Great place for sardines

One of the must parts of Lisbon, best enjoyed by going there in tram and going down on foot. Narrow steep street show you how it looked like many years ago - and of course now, as still people live there, even many of the houses are abandoned and ruined.

I love the old colorful houses with small doors and windows, the tiny narrow streets and stairs, people smiling from the windows inviting you to have a drink or lunch in their house and fado music coming from almost every corner.

One tends to go to the Chiado and barrio Alto to see Lisbon which is great, but Alfama is as Portuguese as it gets. Narrow streets, colorful settings, small typical restaurants. Walk down from the Castelo Sao Jorge towards the Santa Apolonia train station and admire the architecture and magnificent views of the Tagus River. Very special. Don't do this by yourself at night. Best if you are with other people. During the day it is safe.
