Owner description: Wonderful sights delight walkers at every turn in this culturally rich and charming part of Lisbon, which through its architecture reminds visitors of its Visigothic roots, Arabic influence and fishing port heritage.

It's really speacial place. Just take your partner and go for a walk. Forget about the guide, and walk around, have a great sardinas from the local little bar, enjoy green wine, and listen to fado... very special and romantic zone !

A beautiful part of Lisbon. Be sure to wear your walking shoes, as the hills are steep and there are many of them! If you walk around in the later hours, you'll see the locals sitting in the doorways singing Fado music-lovely!

This neighborhood has survived to the biggest earth quake Portugal had, scale 9.1 richter and is like an old town. Friendly people and the small of food is like the old villages. Unforgetable.

You just have to experience it. Walk around and get lost in the streets of Alfama. Kinds playing football in the streets, old ladies shopping around, the old group of friends gathering for a meal. This place is full of character and reflects the beauty and fascinating side of Lisbon.

Top tip: 1. Have some food there (mind the tourist traps), tends to be cheap.

We spent an enjoyable hour or two following a walk in the DK guide (and saw others doing the same!) and loved it. The tiny roads and walkways are interesting in themselves, and occasionally open out onto great views over Lisbon.
