Owner description: Wonderful sights delight walkers at every turn in this culturally rich and charming part of Lisbon, which through its architecture reminds visitors of its Visigothic roots, Arabic influence and fishing port heritage.

This neighborhood has survived to the biggest earth quake Portugal had, scale 9.1 richter and is like an old town. Friendly people and the small of food is like the old villages. Unforgetable.

You just have to experience it. Walk around and get lost in the streets of Alfama. Kinds playing football in the streets, old ladies shopping around, the old group of friends gathering for a meal. This place is full of character and reflects the beauty and fascinating side of Lisbon.

Top tip: 1. Have some food there (mind the tourist traps), tends to be cheap.

We spent an enjoyable hour or two following a walk in the DK guide (and saw others doing the same!) and loved it. The tiny roads and walkways are interesting in themselves, and occasionally open out onto great views over Lisbon.

only got to spend a little time here but it's really fun to walk around the small alleys and see and hear the various fado restaurants.

Total contrast to Lisbon city centre and the new town, alfalma is like stepping back in time. Spend a day getting lost in the winding streets and taking photos of the architecture and locals. Buy a gingja and sit on the steps of cathedral Se watching the world go by. You can get there easily on tram 28, or via walking up any of the stairs on the left of the city! They say you cannot get lost in alfalma, and if u feel lost...just walk down! Cannot miss out Alfalma!
