Owner description: Wonderful sights delight walkers at every turn in this culturally rich and charming part of Lisbon, which through its architecture reminds visitors of its Visigothic roots, Arabic influence and fishing port heritage.

The Alfama is a maze of twisting and turning alleyways posing as streets. There are tons of small mom and pop restaurants at every turn and two of the city’s miradouros with great views out over the city and out to the river. I would recommend you start at the top by St. George’s Castle and walk downhill through this lively neighborhood. There are many things to see and do in the Alfama, none more important that Cathedral Se and the Tram 28 (Pickpocket Express).

I loved the walking tour around the quarter which would have been hard without the walking tour guide as this is truly a maze

Alfama is the old part of the city with little shops, restaurants and the typical pastelaria where you can enjoy the delicious sweets of Lisbon at a really cheap price.

The people are amazing, the arts and crafts you can buy as souvenirs, the restaurants to eat nice grilled fish and drink typical out of the box red wine, to ear Fado for free, and just absorb the streets beauty. Lisbon is not Chiado and its youth, it's Alfama, the great old granny!

It's nice but its a little bit like disneyland. A lot of tourists and they want to get money out of everything. If you go here you will spend at least 40 euro's per person.
