After standing in line for a while we finally got a chance to go up the tower where we had a really nice view of Lisbon. At the top there was lots to do as well, whether seeing ruins or a beautiful church. This attraction is a must when in Lisbon and is situated between two other buildings with line ups stretching around one.

It’s just an elevator, for that amount of money. If you want the view, pick another viewpoint in the city OR go around the backstreet, you get on top of the elevator via the exit and can view the city from the bridge.

Santa Justa Elevator is a 100 year old elevator that offers panoramic views over the historical center of Lisbon. I love the metalwork of the elevator’s shaft. You can walk up a small hill behind the elevator if you don’t want to pay the fee. Another way is a flight of stairs that ends at the park on top of the hill. Go early if you want to ride it as the lines were quite long by mid-day.

I recently had the opportunity to see Lisbon from this vantage. Price was ok 3€- but there was some confusion on how to get to the upper deck. There were 50 stairs (yes we counted) on a very sturdy but steep winding metal staircase. The upper deck provided a beautiful view over Lisbon including a view of the Tagus and the castle. Coming down in the elevator 5 stories was much nicer than walking, but we struggled to get 9’of us in together. Although roomy, the elevator cannot be overloaded
