Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: No expense was spared when they built this masterpiece of Manueline and Gothic architecture in 1502, which was inspired by Vasco da Gama who is buried here with other great navigators of the past.

This monastery was beautiful and we really enjoyed our tour. It is in a convenient location to visit other significant sights.

€10 to look around the monastery with the church entry being free was over priced
There are NO free days unless you are a Portuguese resident, in spite of the information on websites and various publicity suggesting otherwise .

The monastery was viewing the cloisters which in the sun was interesting and beautiful, entry into the church is free and is next to the exit for the monastery . In fact the biggest queue is for the monastery .

Just walk past this enter the church and then decide if you want to enter the monastery

We loved this building, easy access to all areas. We would have liked an audio tour option. Very peaceful, not to crowded fit July. Nice gift shop.

It was a beatiful heritage building with so much history - we took about 30 ro 45 minutes to see everything - worth the visit.
