“A lively side of the city”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

I personally liked a lot this side of the city, both day and night.
Walking through the crowded streets, I felt the spirit of the city accompanied by the music of many musicians who played on every corner spreading cheer and giving a unique atmosphere.
The Baixa is also full of nice restaurants, shops, cafes, in short, a place lively and vibrant.

“Vibrant”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

Excellent area where you can eat, shop and feel the traditional portuguese way of life. Definitely an over price and overly crowded, but well worth the visit. Just watch for pickpocketing.

If you're crazy about shopping this is the place to go... and in the midtime you enjoy the typical Lisbon atmosphere.

“Touristy but fun”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

When I planned to spend some time in the Baixa/downtown section of Lisbon, I knew it would be touristy: crowded, maybe over-priced, possibly over-run by tour groups and aggravating. But you know what? We passed through Baixa on our way to other sections of the city several times and each time enjoyed walking through the squares and up and down Rua Augusta, eating at some pretty nice cafes (that were not so pricy) and having ice cream and drinks as well. We even found a really beautiful round ceramic picture frame in a shop to the side of Restauradores Square that we loved (and bought).

So while this area was not a highlight in a sense of our stay, nevertheless we went back because it was a dependable place to find refreshment and relaxation.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

To sum up Lisbon in one word would be disappointing. It must have been a classical beauty in its time, but now is in need of a good scrubbing. It is somewhat derelict and graffiti is everwhere.
Waiters hassle you in the streets to try to get you to eat at their establishments and they charge for all little extras brought to the table. It is like running the gauntlet; not a good experience.
