Very well laid out, huge central tank, loved the sea otters, allow at least an hour and a half to enjoy at a leisurely pace

We had been told by friends who live in Lisbon that the Oceanario de Lisboa was the best in Europe, but we were skeptical. We live in Chicago and the Shedd is world class. Well, so is this facility. The facility is beautifully situated near the coast. The tanks are huge and have a fantastic selection of aquatic creatures. It was fascinating watching the staff call the penguins by name to feed them. All of the displays are in English and Portuguese making this facility very user-friendly for tourists. A must see.

We visited on a Saturday in Mid October. The admission price was 16 Euros each. There was no line to get in and it wasn't very crowded which made it a much better experience. Just head toward the ocean from the Oriente train station and you can't miss it. The walk over to the aquarium was amazing as along the waterfront you could see groups of fish as well as huge, mutant, jellyfish everywhere. As far as we know it had nothing to do with the aquarium, they were just floating in the water wild. Once inside everything revolves around a giant central tank, so if the window you are trying to look through is crowded just take a few steps over and there will be another window for viewing. There were a lot of amazing fish in the tank but the giant sunfish was the craziest. They also had penguins, puffins, and sea otters in separate exhibits. Plan at least 2 to 3 hours for a visit.
