“Good views”

The castle was beautiful but also difficult to access. The walls are interesting and once you have climbed the steep steps you can walk around and look over the roof tops. We were asked about access as they are planning to make it more user friendly, dont know how they will do that without affecting the ancient fabric of the building.

“A great view over the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

Spent a morning here and it really has spectacular views of the city and the river... Admission fee is E7.50 into the castle. Once inside there are plenty of steps- some of which are quiet step and uneven. Stair wells do not have rails so its not for those unsteady on feet. Worth a visit

“A great view of Lisbon from the Castle”

It's quite a climb up to the castle but well worth it. The views are fantastic and the castle well worth a visit.

“Cat lovers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

If you are a cat lover this is the place to go as there must be at least 20 of them wandering around or laying in the sun with the peacocks. Brillliant views from here over the city.

“Interesting, but not extraordinary”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

The Castelo overlooks the city of Lisbon and is a 'must see' for any first-time visitor to the city. The entrance fee is low. The visitor can wander the castle walls and get a fine view of Lisbon from the battlements, but be warned that the stairs are original, which makes them slippery and of awkward heights (I watched one young fashionable lady try and negotiate the area in high heels - a major mistake on her part). However, after spending maybe an hour going from side to side of the castle and taking photos, there isn't much to do afterwards. The camera obscura is only available when the weather is decent (I was there on a blustery cold wet afternoon). Restaurants are available within the castle site, but there are also many right outside the walls. Parking is limited in the area, and the walk uphill can be rigorous.
