We discovered this by accident wandering into the park area near to the shopping center. The museum and gallery are much bigger than we thought but more especially we were interested in the concert hall. Beautiful wood walls and plush seating. Acoustics phenomenal. New places have the benefit of technology to make sure its good I suppose, rather than retrofitting as you find in older auditoriums. The foyer is also a pleasant place with modern sculpture, huge collage on the walls, indoor plantings, and lovely bar and patio, to spend time in during intermissions. Catch a concert or event if you can. We were lucky enough to hear concert pianist Leif Andsnes on tour from Norway. The guy at the desk found us last minute excellent seats! It seems every event is sold out fast. Check ahead if you get the chance.

Amazing collection by what must have been an amazing gentleman. The museum has just the right amount of exhibits, bathrooms very clean, and very helpful employees. Go on Sunday and it is free!

The collection of artifacts is certainly large but its not what we came to Lisbon to see. It was less about Lisbon then about the history of a collector.

This is quite a trek out walking from the centre, but well worth it.
The items on display are wonderful, from the Egyptian (all small) exhibits to the wonderful Lalique display, in very pleasant grounds.
We didn't visit the modern art gallery, though it is supposed to be good, but there are some choice older paintings on display.

Thank CatherineBath
