One can wander the wonderful steep cobbled streets of bohemian Bairro Alto. It’s fun to ride the Bica Funicular, visit lavish São Roque Church and take in the views from Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara. There are so many century old houses in the various neighborhoods that are decorated with street art. The area is filled with a diverse crowd filled with hip, quirky locals!

Brilliant juxtaposition of faded glory of neoclassical buildings, gritty workaday graffitti’d everything and fun and funky locals. Great area to wander. Street safe (just watch the cats on tiny pavements). Let your feet do the walking, your eyes do the stalking and see where you end up. Try the ginja. The pastel de nata. Anything you fancy.

We were going to take the elevator but there was an extensive queue and a very kind man asked why we would want to queue for hours and pay 7 Euros, when we could walk across to a tiny shop and use their elevator for free, which we did. This took us up to the Bairro Alto area which was interesting and the views wonderful

Bayview from the Hills, cable cars, Fog, Lots of quirky shops and small restaurants. A nice suspension bridge. Not sure if SFO is the Lisbon of the US or Vice versa. Rubbsih is also strewn about- but then what busy big City does not have it? Definitely less homeless people than SFO! Nice district to stay if you are in Lisbon. Hopping, busy, alive!
