“Portugal at it's best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

In our way to Rome, we where extremely well served as we listened to some Fado from the local "friends" of Chico!
The place was crouded but it's easy to know why: the joy, the music and the food is what it makes Portugal so special.

“It's a great tourist neighborhood to promenade. Even in a wheelchair.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

The Bairro Alto is an old touristic neighborhood in the center of Lisbon. At the end of the fifteenth century it was named Vila Nova de Andrade and it consists of the “frequesias” of the Incarnation and Santa Catarina. The streets are narrow and very steep. The houses in the area are very old. The local trade is small. Its main attractions are restaurants and bars resulting in a wonderful place for enjoying the nightlife.
The views from the belvedere are spectacular, including the beautiful Tejo river. Climb in the trolley. Mingle with the locals who are friendly, welcoming and cheerful. It will be a pleasant experience.
However, if you are a disabled person you will have to take a taxi or a van. The trolley has no entry for the wheelchair. The steps of the Monorail’s entrance are too narrow. There are no restaurants or bars suitable for the disabled. A cool thing to do is sit on the sidewalk tables of bars that extend beyond the inside. You will be able to use the wheelchair in the region as long as you have someone to help you on the more difficult spots. There are unexpected holes and the streets narrow with no warnings. There are no appropriate recesses to climb up and down the sidewalks. Walking on crutches will present the same difficulties. Despite all that, the beauty of the view, the contact with the local and the food and fun in the bars and restaurants are a good reward for all the effort. Just sit and relax with an incredible view,

“Fun place with lots of restaurants and clubs.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

Must visit during both day and night at least once. Can be touristy, but easy place to wander, find a restaurant or club to sit and then walk around some more.

“Bairro Alto”

Fun ride up in the funicular, amazing views of the city from Bairro Alto, fun place to be, some parts look a little sketchy at night but all in all safe and fun.

“Nice area!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

This area of the city is a must place to go. It's the place to walk and sit at one of the cafes and enjoy the scenery ... the neighbourhood is full of small restaurants and bars. Very touristic and friendly.
