The meal was extraordinary and ranks with the best I've had in top restaurants around the world but to get it you have to take a risk.
They have a limited a la carte menu but the reason to go is for the Chef's tasting menu which is called a surprise menu.
You choose 3, 5 or seven courses and the waiter won't even give you a hint as to what's coming (though will tell the chef if there is something you are allergic to or just don't like.)
My meal included a heavenly taste of soup, octopus so tender I never would have known what it was, swordfish, an amazing version of crisp suckling pig and multiple little deserts that melt in your mouth.
Your meal will be completely different but take a chance!

We were fortunate enough to secure a reservation at Assinatura - one of Lisbon's best restaurants. Put yourselves in the hands of the chef and go for the 5 or 7 course tasting menus. I did mine with the wine tasting and it was a world class epicurean experience. The service is top notch, the staff speaks English. Not inexpensive but much less than what you would pay for a comparable experience in NY or Paris. A little hard to find - away from the tourist area - so make sure your cab driver knows where they are going

Entering Assintura you immediately notice the modern clean décor. Our expectations where high and we were not disappointed. Staff was friendly and welcoming and spoke excellent English. We don’t like to eat large amounts and considered the 3 course tasting menu, but decided that we wanted to sample a wider variety and choose the 5 course. I made an assumption that if I asked which of the two wine pairings the waiter suggested that he would likely recommend the more expensive so didn’t ask and went ahead and ordered the higher price option. I was pleasantly surprised when the waiter volunteered that he would actually recommend the lesser price, well done! We ordered a cocktail prior to dinning and was impressed when the waiter brought the bottle of scotch out and poured table side. The food was all excellent, interesting combinations, well prepared and right sized. The server team worked together very well and we enjoyed a well paced leisurely meal. Two small annoyances, a) didn’t expect to be charged for bread at a restaurant at this price point, and b) each subsequent wine pairing was poured while the previous was still on the table. We highly recommend and go back again next time in Lisboa.

The Room is nice and the service is simply great. We chose the menu of 3 dishes where the Chef decides what to be served. The food is good with some nice surprises.
They have a special option of dishes of bacalhau which i was curious about. Probably it would turn to be a very good option.

What a wonderful dining experience : great food, the best wines and friendly and attentive staff. What more to wish for? This is simply the best restaurant in town!
Chef Henrique is a wizard in the kitchen, delivering plates using the best local ingredients ( humble ingredients like chicken livers for example) but with a clever twist and a balance of flavours that is unbelievable. A far cry from the touristy fado restaurants, this is a classy and modern restaurant, yet deeply rooted in the best Portugese traditions. Indulge yourselve and try the best Portugese wines on the list, you will not be disappointed....the sommelier is an expert and more than happy not only to share his knowledge, but also have you taste different bottles before making your final choice.
Making timely reservations is essential, especially in the weekend. Go for the tasting menu, we took the 5 courses and got two free courses included, making this a culinairy experience that will be very hard to beat...a deep bow to all that made this such a memorable experience!
