“The treasures of the castle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

For someone who lives on the outskirts of Lisboa and works in a completely different area of the city, coming to Castelo is almost a nightmare. So why do I came to this place from time to time? This is not even a restaurant...
Oh yes! Now I remember... hundreds of wines and a fabulous staff! They really know a lot about wine!
If you're a tourist in Lisboa you shouldn't miss a visit to the Castelo and the great views over the city. But after a few hours there you should stop on your way down and discover other highlights of Portugal: wine, cheese, olive oil, sausages...
They're great hosts and they will help you to find the perfect wine for you and the delicacies to go along with it... if you're a wine enthusiast this will be heaven: especially if you end up with a 19th century Madeira or Porto!

“Great wines, nice snacks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

A colleagues told me to go to this winebar when in Lisbon as he loved it. I have to say, I was not disappointed. The owner is very friendly and is helping you choose the right wine by asking what kind of wine you like. We tasted different wines and ended up buying some. You can also have snacks to accompany the wine. The different cheeses are jug awesome. We also tasted the olives, the meat and sausage. When visiting the Castle just stop by and have a glass of wine here with some olives or so. I can not find a reason why not to love it!

“Really a wine bar, not a restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

On the walk up to see the castle in Lisbon it's worthwhile to stop here for a breather and a chance to taste wines from each region of Portugal. It's an attractive spot, and the congenial hosts will inform you in English, Portuguese or Spanish about the country's wines. They served me a selection of cheeses, bread and olives without cost. But don't count on it!

“Great place-amazing wines-passionate owner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

We stayed in Lisbon for a week in March, just before the season has started. We were planning to visit the Sao Jorge Castle but it has started raining so we have started to walk home when we have realised the small but friendly Wine Bar.
It was only 3 tables at a time as it was still quiet time for Lisbon so we got all the attention of the Owner (Nuno) who clearly has the knowledge and the passion for the Portugese wines.
Me and my husband are really into wines and appreciated the wine tasting. We have tasted 7 wines accompanied with some local olives and breads- which were fantastic!
This EXPERIENCE was the best during our holiday time in Lisbon! A big Thank You for Nuno and we will think about you when we open the special Muscat Dessert Wine for my birthday!

“Nothing like this in the States”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

Stopped in 3 times in 3 days! I now know more about Portuguese wine than any of my wine friends in Atlanta. Unfortunately, unless they come to Lisbon, they will never get a chance to sample these phenomenal wines. The staff at this place is incredibly knowledgeable about the wines. They sit down with you and discuss your preferences in wine, then they bring over 3 or 4 wines for you to taste to really try to hone down on the best fit for your palate. At that point you can choose one of the wines to have a glass or carafe. Or you can start over if they missed what you like. You can also start over if you tried a red, then wanted to shift to a white, the process is the same. So, you get great wine, great knowledge and great service for a great price. They do have some limited tapas (also great) if you get hungry....but this is a wine bar. In the states this concept could go viral. Every wine tasting I've seen is getting a group together to taste a particular set of wines, in the hope of selling those wines. The host describes those wines while they are being tasted. Here, it is a personal touch, they are concerned with your tastes and what appeals to you and they have an inventory of hundreds of wines (all reasonably priced) to find that perfect wine for you, they are not limited to 6 to 8 wines like a wine tasting back home. One caveat, if it gets crowded the service can suffer a bit, but to their credit, they will not short cut the process, so that everyone can get the same experience.
