Description: On off the least pretentious of Lisbon's Fado restaurants is also one of its finest. Hosts Duarte Santos and Ana Marina treat guests as family and the homely ambiance is warming and inviting. The homemade gastronomy is noted for its textures and flavours and generous portions, with the seafood cataplana (stew) a much-lauded feast. The menu is limited, but here it's all about the quality of the food. As for the entertainment, this is local fado at its most authentic -- the singers and musicians have known each other for years, and the performance is heartfelt and genuine. Quite often, diners are invited to join in which makes the evening truly memorable.

You will taste, hear and see pure art in this restaurant. It is pricey, but totally worth it! The service is excellent and so is the food. The wine is made by the owner of the restaurant and his family, delicious! I won't start about the singing because I wouldn't do it justice :)

“So glad I didn't miss this!”
Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

My first trip to Lisbon, second Fado show and a much much better experience ! Wonderful hosts, musicians, singers, & family. You won't regret this place!

Must have reservations.
We arrived at 0830 pm ate dinner, I think music started at 11:30 ish and ended after 1:30 am.

I particularly enjoyed the English explanation at beginning and opportunity to speak and ask questions at the end of the evening.
Do expect to spend an average of €40 + per person for a great meal which included cheese, olives, bread, bottled water and wine . we ordered and shared a mixed seafood plate for 4 which had loads of mussels, clams, prawns, monkfish, sea bream, skate or plaice (can't remember exact name ) in a tomatoe base & side of rice. We had no room for desert so can't comment but it looked delicious. They had other non seafood options but I think seafood is the only food to eat while in Lisbon!

Must be able to stay up past 1:30am, so come rested and please don't be rude and leave early in middle of singing! That is inappropriate and rude.

Thank you

“Very happy experience on February 15”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We were completely happy with our fado night at Sr. Fado.
Small, intimate and very friendly.
A reservation is absolutely required. Get there by 8:15 to 8:30 if you want a choice of table but all tables are good.
Everyone has the Cataplana.
Expect the fado to start around 11 and the first set to finish by 1 AM. As Duarte said, they might play all night so sit back and enjoy.

“So happy we found this place!”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

A fabulous night in Lisbon... an experience not to be forgotten. The chef and host (owners) manage to serve the whole place (approx 24 covers the night we were there) by themselves, and remain friendly and efficient. On arrival, we were shown to our table, which had a basket of warm bread, olives, two well-chosen portuguese cheeses and a glass each of white port. My daughter and I ordered a pitcher of Sangria, which the owner explained was Angolan-style Sangria, and was beautiful. The menu is small, as it must be when there is only one person in the kitchen. We had the pork with clams for two, which was served with rice and was tender and delicious. You definitely won't be hungry afterwards, because the portions are generous and the food, homemade by the chef, has a wonderfully satisfying quality.
I stupidly forgot to mention I was allergic to strawberries when I ordered the forest fruit semifreddo, so couldn't eat the whole thing, but the bite I did have was absolutely delicious.
Apart from ourselves(Irish) and a lot of Portuguese people, there was an American couple, a few Brazilians, a German couple and the Ambassador of Chile, who himself assured me that I was lucky to have found the most authentic Fado restaurant in Lisbon! Indeed!
After the meal, The host grabbed his guitar, and a few of the other diners grabbed their stringed instruments (don't know what they were) and a procession of older portuguese men sang the most beautiful Fado music, taking turns. After about an hour of this, which we already thought was superb, the chef came out after a costume change and proceeded to sing with the most beautiful and strong voice- proving they saved the best till last. She involved the whole room, and it was evident that the room was filled with happy customers. We left at about 1 am, and agreed with the Chilean Ambassador- we were lucky to have found this place. Thank you to Ana Marina
