I'm not a fan of standard tour groups, so when I found the website for We Hate Tourism Tours, it sounded like the right thing for me and my mother. Even though we're older than their average tour members, they made us feel right at home. Tiago, our tour guide and driver, gave us just enough "history" to be informative without going into lecture overload. It was really fun talking with him, not only about Lisbon and Portugal, but travel and life in general. The lunch was also fabulous! The van may not have been as deluxe as those used by bigger tour companies, but that was part of the charm of the excursion. We were so pleased with their service that we also booked an early-morning airport transfer. Things to know before deciding if this tour is right for you:
Small group tour, so you need to be comfortable making small talk with the others in your group.
Older vehicles, so you need to be comfortable with a little wear and tear.
Independent types will fare better as you're given time to explore on your own.
Comfort with electronic communication is essential.
I would not hesitate to recommend WHTT to my friends, and if (when) I return to Lisbon, I look forward to doing another of their tours.
booked the King of the Hills tour on our very first day in Lisbon. great way to get an overview of the city with the plus of being with our guide Miguel who let us discover the hidden gems of Lisbon. it was pure fun!
The Jeep tour with Miguel was a fast paced, exciting introduction to Lisboa. Having the perspective of a local added a new level of understanding to the city, including a snapshot of the national culture and local vibe. Everything from neighborhood problems to Portugal's history, the 3 hour tour gave us a solid foundation for the rest of our vacation in Portugal's impressive capital.
It was a perfect way to see Lisbon since we only stayed a weekend. I really liked seeing the sights we went to. The group was also small so that was good.
We only had 2 full days to explore Lisbon. We Hate Tourism Tours "King of the Hills" tour is a MUST on such a short trip. There is no possible way anyone could see as much of this beautiful city on a long half day trip on their own. Riccardo was our guide/driver of the old jeep up, down and around the city. He was very informed and passionate about his city. Hold on for some steep hills and narrow streets! There is no way you should miss this one. Mom, dad and 2 teenagers loved every bit of this tour. It was perfect to plan our evening and even prompted us to take the full day trip to Sintra the following day! Freddy was our tour guide and again we were "blown away" with the whole experience and flexibility of our tour. I have been on several tours in other cities but these were special. THANK YOU FOR AN AWSOME EXPERIENCE!

I booked this trip as an easy way to see out-of-way sights around Lisbon. I really enjoyed seeing the sights it took us to (Sintra, Quinta da Regaleira, Cabo do Rocca, Guincho, and Belem). I also liked that it was a smaller group, it made it easier to talk to other people and ask the guide questions. The approach is definitely different and a little more relaxed than most tours, but I found this to be perfect and good for a day trip like this. I think it's a pretty good value for the money. It might cost a little bit more than buying train tickets to all those places, but you do get lunch and someone local to show you around and who will answer questions.
