As I am coming from Namibia first visit to Portugal and only went on the reviews and website's it where not easy to find a place. I first stay in a other hotel cause off the reviews and area off Lisbon City Hotel and I'm a woman. After 3 day in Lisbon I went and look at this hotel. There and then I booked myself in and stayed there for the remaining 10 days of my visit in Lisbon. The staff where great all front desk staff could speak English and the one girl cleaning on the 2 floor could also speak English so I had no problem. They where all helpful. I could go out by night and never had a problem. The Hotel is in the middle off 2 metro stations and you could even walk to Rosio. I am planning to go for 10-14days and would stay in LISBON CITY HOTEL no doubt.
To all the Staff for there help during my stay 2-12 January 2011 you guys where GrEaT and always helpful ThAnKs!!!!............... From a sunny Namibia

I stayed in this hotel with my friends an we really enjoyed our stay. The subway was close to the hotel and from this point we could go to all the interesting places in Lisbon. Our room had a balcony with a magnificent view. When you go there check the panoramic terrace, where you can see beautiful view of Lisbon.
I highly recomend this Hotel! And I would certainly go there again!

We stayed for almost a week at this hotel and had an excellent experience! Very friendly and helpful staff. Since we are a multilingual family, we were able to communicate in Portuguese and English very easily. Rooms are clean, with modern stuff. It is great to have a balcony for some fresh air and nice view. We stayed at the 6th floor. Since I have a young baby, they definitely made our stay easier. front desk staff is always willing to help and always suggested good options about the city. Located between 2 subway stations, it is not a long distance from downtown (for those who like to walk!). I have to admit I wasnt happy about the idea of staying at this hotel after I read about the neighborhood, but after 1 night therel I changed my mind! The whole staff made me feel at home!! Close to the hotel there is a place they serve meals to poor people, so this attracts not very good looking people, but they are harmless. Never had any problems with them! Only poor people!
I definitely recommend this hotel!
Now in Portuguese...
Definitivamente recomendo o hotel a pessoas criteriosas!

this is a new hotel. we got a very small room but got to change because we asked for a room with balcony so we could smoke, the price of the room was the same, so watch out for that.( look at the fire plan some rooms are tiny)
it is not an ideal location, but not bad, would probaly try to find something more central, there is a metro st and trams nearby.
there is a seafood resturant just down the street where locals que up to get in almost every night.
we never got up for breakfast, so cant give that a review, the tv is very limited, other hotels there have sat tv with loads of movie channels, wich is nice after a long day of walking up and down.
this is a good hotel in my oppinion but if you can find something more central in same price range go for that

its very well located. When i arrived my luggage was stucked between airports and the staff helpd me out, calling frequenttly the airport. they spoke a very good english.
The rooms are very clean and modern.
The location its very strategic, closed to the public transportations.
Altough the breakfast area is not very big it was enough. The breaskfast is very good for the Value.
Next time in Lisbon, definitely i'll stay there

Room: Small. Could use a bit more space so you don't bang into things; the beds were comfortable (but hard) the pillows were flat. The temperature can only be controlled centrally. It was very cold during the night and we had to put the heat on. It took a long time before we started feeling it come through. The bathroom was large - ONLY a shower in some rooms. I don't know if they have bathtubs, you could ask though. The room is VERY poorly lit. There is a small light by the door and small lights that hang over the night stands, but hardly any light comes through them. If you want the room to have more light, leave the bathroom door open and the light on. The cleaners knocked on the door constantly and wanted to clean the room at 10 am, which meant leaving for the day or waiting to go back into the room. Most of the cleaners don't speak English and some don't speak Portuguese either, so it is VERY HARD to communicate with them. We overheard the front desk staff tell another guest that some staff are related to the owner of the hotel so he doesn't care if they can communicate with the guests or not.
The cleaners did not do a good job in the room. There was dust everywhere. The only thing they did was fix the bed and empty the garbage. My friend accidently squirted a little toothpaste that bounced onto the wall and it stayed there until we checked out. There were notes lying around from the previous guests also.

Breakfast: The breakfast room only has space for about 20 people, which isn't very many considering the number of rooms in the hotel. It was particularly overcrowded and we had to wait for a table. The food wasn't particularly tasty. There were cereals, milk, juice, bread and sweets. They also have ham and cheese, but they were not on ice or anything cold. The ham was warm on all days and the sliced cheese was warm and soft. I was sick for 3 days afterwards and was told it was due to the ham and cheese being spoiled.

Location: The hotel is situated between Anjos and Intendente metro stations, which is just a few stops from Downtown Lisbon. I walked there - it took approx 15 minutes. It isn't the most desirable of areas (the hotel staff even warned us that it wasn't the safest of areas at night). There were car alarms that went off right through the night outside the hotel. Just stepping outside, you are approached immediately by homeless asking for spare change or cigarettes. There are homeless sleeping everywhere in the area and drug dealers too. On the next corner, there are prostitutes - even during the day.

Hotel staff: The night staff are rude and not very accommodating. No effort into getting an English speaking person. The staff should know their directions instead of sending you on a wild goose chase. One of the front desk girls kept flirting with my husband instead of doing her job.

Overall the hotel was comfortable but not in a convenient area. There are nicer places to stay at for cheaper and you would get treated better. I would not recommend this place nor would I stay there again. This hotel opened a few months ago and is already having problems. You would think that with all the tourists entering here, they would hire someone who spoke fluent English.

You can tell by the way this hotel is run, the poor quality of breakfast and the staff, that the owner does not care about being a penny pincher. He gets whatever is cheap.
Put some money into our breakfasts and training your staff. Perhaps an English class would be beneficial for them. The cleaning staff needs to do a better job and get someone who can communicate with the guests better.

Room: Spacious but sparse; the beds were comfortable (albeit rather hard) and the temperature can only be controlled centrally. The bathroom was also large and even had a bath (NB only available in selected rooms though). The cleaners knocked on the door despite the do not disturb sign and wanted to clean the room at 10 am at the weekend. During the week, they only came at 4 pm, which meant waiting to go back into the room.

Breakfast: The breakfast room only has space for about 20 people, which isn't very many considering the number of rooms in the hotel. It was particularly overcrowded at the weekend. The food itself was acceptable (standard Continental breakfast), but wasn't particularly tasty.

Location: The hotel is ideally situated between Anjos and Intendente metro stations, which is just a few stops from the city centre. It isn't the most desirable of areas however (the hotel receptionist even warned us that it wasn't the safest of areas at night – although I suppose the same applies for any major city!). The main problem was in fact the car alarms that went off almost continously for half the night right outside the hotel.

Overall the hotel was comfortable and convenient. It only opened a few months ago (I think), so everything was nice and clean and well-kept. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and there was a nice terrace on the top floor offering fantastic views over the local area (accessible to all guests).
