“Just the best.”
Reviewed November 25, 2011

The Inspira Hotel was simply one the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Located on a quiet street close to the main street of Av. da Libertad, the metro and bus lines, it was the perfect location for exploring Lisbon.

The focus of the hotel is on sustainability and natural living, based on feng shui principles. It’s very modern and minimalist opened only a year ago. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bed linens were 100% high quality cotton. Part of the room was devoted to making drinks, including a small fridge containing free sparkling water, juice and beer. This was in addition to the Nespresso machine, a tea kettle for boiling water, a variety of fair trade teas, cream, sugar, spoons, glasses and cups and bottled filtered drinking water, all complimentary as well. I found it to be a real treat and convenience. It shows their commitment to customer satisfaction.

The room was extremely quiet both from the street and from the other rooms. Outside of the hearing an occasional door closing (they slam automatically behind you) I heard nothing. I had internal wooden shutters which kept out all light from the outside. The TV had 25 English channels most of them news, so I was well informed. There was an interesting lightening system but it was not as complicated as some people have posted. The lights had interesting combinations but were well labelled. At any rate, there was an instruction booklet that explained everything from the telephone to the Nespresso machine to the TV. If you were still confused, the hotel staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. I received discount coupons for the restaurant, a drink and the spa, but unfortunately I didn’t have time to use them.

My room, 217, was on the street side of the hotel. It had an additional half level, made of wood that had a couch and sitting area. The windows were fairly high so I had to climb the half level to see out and close the shutters. This particular room could use a better reading light on the closet side of the bed. There were other rooms that faced the little alleyways along each side of the hotels. There were 2 free computers to use in the lobby if you did not bring your own. The room had an extensive tech section but I didn’t use it as I had no tech devices with me.

The bathroom was very modern with good lighting and a large, walk in shower with both an overhead rain shower with good pressure for once, and a hand held one. An interesting feature that I liked was the speaker system in the bathroom. I could listen to the TV program while I was in there. The towels were plentiful (washcloths too!), the bath products were organic and there were recycling bins. Two walls of the bathroom are made of a decorated frosted glass which are not transparent. A sliding door separates the entire bathroom and WC area from the rest of the room for complete privacy.

The breakfast buffet had both hot and cold dishes and was filling. The freshly baked rolls and freshly squeezed orange juice were a real delight.

The hotel has a restaurant and in addition there were two neighborhood restaurants across the street. They were full of locals eating excellent seafood and other Portuguese dishes and drinking excellent house wine and coffee. The menus were posted in English on the window and the staff all spoke English like many do in Lisbon.

I can’t recommend this hotel more.

Wonderful room/shower/bed.
Complimentary mini bar and Nespresso machine in the room worked wonders!
Close to the main shopping street and a slight walk to the metro (10mins) and Rossio train station (15-20mins).
Very thoughtful too as they prepared complimentary wine and chocolate for our anniversary celebrations.

Spent 4 nights here. Very good hotel. Comfortable room I had the best night's sleep in years. Staff pleasant and helpful. A couple of good restaurants across the road from hotel. Close to Avenida Da Liberdade and convenient for Metro. We did not eat at the hotel as we like to try different places and we had breakfast at a Cafe around the corner. The Cafe always full of local business people. Mini market nearby. We would stay again if we return to Lisbon.

Although it doesn't look very much from the street, as soon as you're through the front door you enter an impressively large and welcoming atrium. The English-speaking staff were friendly and very helpful. Rooms are a little on the small side, but beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and with a very high-quality finish (the Nespresso machine with pods replenished daily is a particularly nice touch). The "lighting moods" are a bit gimmicky, making it hard to work out which lights you're putting on when! One unexpected (and not entirely welcome!) "feature" was the open wall between the bathroom and bedroom. The WC is completely private, but the interior of the bathroom is visible from the bedroom - not necessarily a problem, but not something you often encounter! Free wi-fi is always welcome, but it did tend to drop the connection quite frequently and kept requiring the password to be re-entered, which becomes a little annoying after a while.

We ate in the restaurant, which was very pleasant if slightly lacking in atmosphere (due to being very quiet). Very friendly serving staff, and a couple of very attractive offers (free bottle of wine and 10% off voucher with the room).

The area the hotel is in isn't particularly "buzzy", and it's about a 5-minute walk to the nearest metro station (Marques Pombal), or about a 15/20-minute walk to the city centre.

Overall, the hotel is pretty high-spec, and feels very classy - there are just a couple of little "snagging" points which they could address to make staying there a really perfect experience.

While the design and service were great, I would not recommend that you stay at this hotel. I honestly cannot understand why it has such a high rating.

The good:
1. Nesspresso machine in the room.
2. Great service.

The bad:
1. Poor breakfast - water and orange juice, omelet and bacon. that's about it.

2. Bad location - everything worth doing or seeing is 15-20 minutes away on foot.

3. The shower - the walls are transparent, so you are seen showering from inside the room. Can be nice, but can also be an annoyance. The light is very dim and there is only a lamp to the left of the mirror, which leaves the right half of your face dark while shaving, mirror is far away too. shaving is almost impossible. The water in the shower floor do not completely drain and there is always a pool of water from the last shower. There is also no place to put a shampoo or soap and you have to go in and out of the shower to get things. water pressure is not a 100% too.

4. The room layout - There is no place for you luggage, so you'll have to keep them laying about on the floor. The closet is very very small and is filled with the safe and minibar, so you can practically say there is no closet at all. You'll be living out of your suitcases that are laying on the floor.

5. The free wireless Internet - it is a pain. It keeps disconnecting and asking for you password every 5 minutes. Just a real pain using the Internet. I have a pretty standard device - an iPhone.

6. The lights system - there is an annoying lights system with modes: welcome, on, relax, reading, night WC. You can never understand what's the difference between most of them and there is no control over individual lights. The light in the room is really dim, you can barely see things after sundown. Since the shower is transparent, you will always wake your partner when turning on the lights for going to the WC at night.

7. TV - The TV system of the hotel is horrible. changing channels is a pain. The TV response to a channel change after 5-6 seconds. The movie order system doesn't function.

There are plenty of hotels in Lisbon, choose another!

Dear "E_128",

Thank you for your feedback regarding the hotel. I am sorry you found more bad points than good. As you will appreciate from over 99% of the comments on trip advisor regarding this hotel, most of our clients are satisfied with the location of the hotel which is very central. I can only apologise about your breakfast experience- again I can only point to our guest comments that tell us our buffet breakfast is overall rated as a good breakfast. We have taken on board your feedback with regards to the low level of lighting in the bathroom and also the water pressure form the shower. We have a low energy policy in the hotel as part of our sustainability certification process, nevertheless the lighting can be controlled/increased from the light panel to the client's liking, As regards our taps and showers, they are all fitted with water saving devices in accordance with our sustainability practices, the water pressure is generally good, and we do not have "power showers" in this hotel. I can advise that shampoo and soap holders are currently in the process of being fitted in the bathrooms. Regarding the room layout, we were faced with the difficult dilema of sacrificing closet space for more space to walk around and we chose the latter. Larger rooms are available however, for longer stays.
With regard to the free wi-fi, I can advise that we have not had negative feedback from any Wi-fi user until now and a large number of our guests use the system . The light panel functions are explained in a booklet that we provide in the rooms - there is actually a "WC Night" setting that illuminates only the area behind the panel in the room so as to minimize disruption of a partner. The TV system is an IPTV system which is a bit different from a home application since it functions on internet protocol and therefore is a little slower. We have no record/register from any guests regarding the Pay TV system not functioning.
All in all, I am disappointed that you did not find the hotel to your likinng and thank your for your constructive opinion .
Best Regards,
Nick Roucos

We stayed here for the second part of our honeymoon. The room and amenities were great. Minibar, coffee, tea, bathrobes, wifi, fitness center (with sauna, jacuzzi, and steam room) were all included. While the view from the room wasn't great the location was! It was easy to walk down the Avenue or to catch the metro from several different stations. Lots little bakeries and restaurants are within a couple of blocks. It was quiet at night in the room which was very appreciated. Also the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful in giving directions and make recommendations. We would definitely stay here again if we go back to Lisbon.
