Although the food was quite good, we returned to this restaurant from a visit two years ago because we had really liked it. But this time, the service was terrible - no one seemed to want to take responsibility for our table. We were brought the wrong food. And we had to send the bill back twice because they charged us full price for items that were on special for the day (which they had made a big deal about being on special) and for an item substitution that they had offered initially at no charge.

The street reminds me of our experience in Istanbul Galata Bridge, where the whole street was lined with restaurants and waiters standing outside trying to pull in customers with the colourful menu. After talking to a few we decided to give this place a try because there seems to be quite a lot of locals dining in it.

We lookecd at the menu again and checked to make sure that the prices was what we expected, and picked the roasted pork and grilled squid, plus a salad which we should not have ordered as the main disk came with a fair portion of salad. We did ask about the price before we ordered and we weren't overcharged.

We were given a small glass of Port Wine free of charge as promised by the waiter outside, but we were not served any bread, cheese or other food as the waiter probably sensed that we won't pay for any of these.

The pork was very well roasted with a very soft texture, and the squid was fresh and nicely grilled. Perhaps these dishes are similar to our own food back home so we have no complain. Our whole meal came to 25 euro including 2 bottles of water which I thought was reasonable. The place was almost full inside when we left.

I came back to the hotel and was shocked to find so many negative reviews here! We certainly have a very much better experience than many of those reported here. I guess one should always be mindful of the local custom, as we realised that in Portugal most restaurants charged every single item of starter you eat. The best thing to do is always ask about the price before taking any.

Oh how I wish I'd read these reviews before we visited this place. We were enticed in by quite a nice bloke and as there was a film premier almost next door we thought it would be a great place to people watch. Luckily for some reason we didn't have the cheese/ham etc served to us. We had suckling pig which I thought was very nice, two small salads, a chocolate mousse dessert (almost forced upon us) as a bottle of Mateus rose wine. We always take a guess at the bill before it arrives and this was twice the price we were guessing at. The wine was double what we'd paid in a lovely restaurant in Cascais the previous day. And as for the waiter adding on his tip and writing the amount we were expected to pay on the table cloth really p****d me off. Avoid this place like the plague!
