My friend and I experienced the Ideal on a Wednesday night, after initially clocking it on a Saturday night when it looked packed out. It was actually similar on the Wednesday night. It is a very small place and we were asked to wait on the chairs in the street outside while they prepared our table. Do not be dissuaded by this. The service was exemplary. There were two waiters working at a pace all evening, but they were constantly (but not overbearingingly) attentive, helpful and on top of their game. The majority of the diners appeared to be locals and the overall ambience was really comfortable and welcoming.
The menu was written on boards in Portuguese, but the waiter took five minutes to talk us through it and recommend items along with a wine to suit our tastes and pockets. On offer are tiborna (bruschetta like items) petiscos (tapas style dishes) and main meals. We ordered the goats cheese, onion and honey tiborna, a pesto, olive oil and garlic tiborna, a mushroom and chestnut pastry basket petiscos and a sirloin steak main meal. This was plenty for thre two of us. The only disappointment was the steak, which was over cooked and more like a veal steak, although the accompanying sauce, vegetables and salad and overall taste were good. We had the yogurt cheesecake with red berries and pear and apple crumble with cream and cinnamon for dessert.
The bill came to €52... perhaps pricey for Lisbon, but not overpriced in our opinion.
