Description: The Madragoa Cafe is a place where you can find a traditional Portuguese cuisine, where the products used are fresh and Portuguese. The predominant wines are from the Douro region, however it is possible to find wines from other regions. The dishes are a selection of some of the best that each region of Portugal has to offer. The desserts are traditional and some are made at the restaurant. The affection with which clients are received, that comes from the heart. See you soon!

Starters of morcilla and mixed cheese/ meats was acceptable. Bife Madragoa was nice, but I wasn't too keen on the potato 'crisp' things on top. Chocolate mousse was good, as was the biscuit cake. All that with wine for two was 47E. Pretty good!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was odd. But the food was wholesome.

We stumbled across this restaurant on a Monday night as a lot of the ones we had been recommended were shut but I can't see why this one wasn't on the list!

The owners run the whole thing. The chef took us through the whole menu which is great and gave us recommendations which we went for.

The food was lovely. We had cheese, bread and olives to start, beef and cod fish as our mains and an amazing homemade chocolate cake for pudding- one of the best I've had. All this with a decent bottle of wine came to 45 euros for 2 - a bargain!

We weren't rushed at all and there was a lovely atmosphere - a real gem!

Madragoa Café is one of those places you would regret not to know, whether you are a local or a tourist. A restaurant run exclusively by the owners, where you only pay for the food, not for the art of cooking, nor for the excellent and friendly service. If you want to eat good traditional Portuguese food, with a touch of creativity, this is the place for you.

The restaurant has a very warm and personable atmosphere, and the owner cooks the food personally and takes great pride in offering well-prepared, characteristic Portuguese cuisine to the table. Don´t be frustrated if you can´t read the menu in Portuguese, the owner did it on purpose so that you may have more interaction with them instead of just pointing to a picture or a number to order. My experience at the restaurant was just like my overall experience in Portugal - genuine and warm hospitality from a land with rich culture and deep roots.

The price was very reasonable and portions large, relative to the other restaurants I have visit in tourist towns in Portugal. And their menu is unique with a personal touch.
