“Cool setting to drink Portuguese wine...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

Here's the 1,2,3s...

1. A wine bar/restaurant in an old well-head aqueduct!!??? Very cool!

2. Waitress was VERY excellent in explaining the different Portuguese wines and brought all bottles to the table for viewing. We tried 8 different wines. They offer an excellent wine flight that allows you to try many different wines.

3. They have some small plates of food, which were good too (not outstanding, but good for price/value of what you get and tasty).

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

We were recommended this place by a Portuguese friend and were not disappointed. This building is an old cistern and they have remodeled the restaurant around it. The decor is really fun and funky. Our waitress was fantastic! She was quite busy but she was very attentive and recommend different wines to accompany our food. She was very helpful and gave me great vegetarian recommendations. The food was great and so was the wine/cava! We really enjoyed our last evening in Lisbon here and at the end of the meal we were even given a complimentary dessert! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for wine and tapas or small dishes!

“Good stop for wine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2013

We stopped here for some wine after our great dinner, and we did not get disappointed.
We hade the great possibility to have the wine tasting with four different wines for 15€/pers, from among those sold by the glass. But because we both ordered the tasting, the waitress asked if we would like to taste 8 different wines! Fantastic...we had a wonderful end to a great day here.
It is a little hard to find, but we are so glad we did!

“Interesting and excellent location but food and service was disappointing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

The building is amazing and a truly unique spot to eat and drink. Sadly let down by what I can only describe after 5 days in Lisbon as typical Portuguese service - slow, haphazard but friendly. We knew little about Portuguese wines and we were sadly not helped by either of the 2 female staff. Our food arrived before our wine and although the wine was excellent, our salt cod choice was forgotten and the food was tepid and some of it cold. This may have been due to the chilly ambient temperature in the aqueduct - I know it's an aqueduct but we had to keep our coats and scarves on to keep warm. The food was OK, had worse but cold polenta is really not pleasant. Worth a trip if only for a glass of wine and to admire the architecture.

Top tip - wrap up warm when visiting.

“interesting place but haphazard service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

We visited Enoteca on a Thursday evening in April. There were a small number of tables available and we chose one on the top floor of this ancient water house! This building was a part of the water system which provided water to the city's fountains and to the houses of the rich. It is worth having a good look around before you dine.
Unfortunately, the waitresses were rather disorganised and we had to wait about 15 minutes before even our drinks order was taken - the wine took about the same time to arrive after that! If the place had been full I would have understood, but many tables were not in use when we took our seats. The name of the restaurant means 'Fountain of Wine' and they pride themselves on the extensive wine list. However, it is 'pot luck' if you know nothing about Portuguese wines as the staff's knowledge is rather limited.
The food is tapas style and was very tasty although quite expensive. As the portions were small we ordered a second round of plates and a second bottle of wine. The food arrived promptly this time but the wine came only after we had finished so we declined it.
It seemed as if some diners received good service whilst others did not, a decidedly hit or miss affair.
My recommendation would be to go early in the evening for wine and a snack and go on somewhere else for dinner.
